To any soviet gear buff,

a book I recently read describes the outfit of GRU Spetsnaz in the 80s. Most of it is similar to what VDV troops used. One piece that is unique though, is their boots.

The author describe them has high-leg, soft leather boots with fastening straps, including an ankle one to secure the foot against the heel of the boot.

The first thing that came to mind was the US tanker boots, with their quick-donning straps.

Has anyone further info, or better yet pictures of the said Spetsnaz boots?

Thanks.

If I recall correctly, I've seen photos of similar Russian / Ukrainian boots. However they laced up partially and had dual fastening straps near the top of the boot, whereas "tanker" style boots were solely straps. The closest boot I can think of for comparison would be the double buckle Serbian / JNA combat boots.

I may have some photos or better info around here somewhere, but I'm in the process of moving and it's all packed away.
