Dutch report in ! : question about S.R.I.M.

Does anyone of my fellow countrymen know how the situation is with the S.R.I.M. project (Snel RIcht Middel - Fast Aiming Sight).

I have seen pictures of EOtechs, Aimpoint and the ACOG which one is it going to be? Does anyone know? I hope they choose the BEST rather then the cheapest this time and not what they did with the Diemaco and the AUG

Heh, you mean the C79 Elcan right? Diemaco rifles are $1000+/copy, compared to $350 for a Colt. Not exactly "cheap". :)

Also you guys use AUGs?

I read this the other day in het magazine of the Royal Marine Corps.


Om te kunnen voldoen aan de eis om 24 uur per dag inzetbaar te zijn, wordt er momenteel
bij de Koninklijke Landmacht gebruik gemaakt van de helderheidsversterker monoculair en
binoculair, een richtkijker Munos hv voor de Diemaco, twee hv kijkers voor de Minimi en de
mag en een handheld warmtebeeldkijker de Lion.
Snelrichtmiddelen (srim)
De huidige Diemaco-familie binnen het Korps is uitgerust
met de Elcan richtkijker. Alom bekend zijn de red-dot
snelrichtmiddelen waarmee onder andere de Bijzondere
Bijstands Eeenheid (BBE) is uitgerust. Toepassing van een
dergelijk richtmiddel voor de infanterist zal de effectiviteit
en de letaliteit op korte afstand vergroten omdat het
wapen eenvoudiger en sneller is in te zetten. Op dit
moment is een KL-bataljon uitgerust met drie typen SRIM.
Ook het Korps Mariniers zal de beschikking krijgen over
een testserie.
Energiepakket
Om alle apparatuur van stroom te kunnen voorzien is het
ontwikkelen van een energiepakket van het grootste
belang. Dit pakket zal verwerkt worden in de kleding en
uitrusting die de marinier draagt en waarop allerlei componenten
aangesloten kunnen worden. Om mee te kunnen
gaan in de ontwikkelingen en niet te blijven steken in het
meedragen van kilo’s batterijen is het aansluiten bij deze
ontwikkeling essentieel.
Bescherming
Samen met het KPU werkt SMP momenteel aan het optimaliseren
van de ballistische bescherming voor de militair.
Gevolgen hiervan zijn dat het draagvest voor de
beschermende platen een verhoogde bescherming zal kunnen
gaan bieden bij een gelijkblijvend gewicht. Tevens
maakt nieuwe technologie een vermindering in gewicht
van de ballistische platen mogelijk en zal het totale
gewicht van het kogelwerende vest aanzienlijk teruggedrongen
kunnen worden.
Bewapening
In de ontwikkeling naar een nieuw wapen voor de individuele
militair wordt momenteel de afweging gemaakt om
enerzijds een volledig geïntegreerd wapen te ontwikkelen
of voort te borduren op het bestaande concept van de
Diemaco en dit concept modulair uit te breiden. Ook hierin
zullen mogelijk voor het Korps Mariniers interessante
ontwikkelingen plaatsvinden.
Afronding
De diversiteit aan projecten en daarmee samenhangende
mogelijke gewenste materieelsuitbreiding maken van SMP
een bijzonder nuttig en wenselijk programma om als
Korps Mariniers volledig aan deel te nemen. Al was het
maar om geïnformeerd te blijven omtrent de snelle technologische
ontwikkelingen die plaatsvinden en die het Korps
noodzakelijkerwijs zal moeten volgen om niet achter te
raken, zowel in nationaal als in internationaal perspectief.

well from what I have heard a C7 cost about 2,50 euro's for us ;) because we machine certain parts here in Holland ....

and we do NOT use the Aug (anymore, KCT used the Aug during the Eighties) ... when we decided to issue new guns we tested a whole range of models .... german american israeli dutch (!) austrian .... and the Aug came out best but we got the diemaco instead because of prices and politics and canada would place some counterorders
to make up the price ....

Hah, well, our Dutch howitzers work great, so maybe we got the better deal?

C7/C8 are great rifles, C8SFW is a kick ass rifle. But yeah, the Elcan sucks (for a military rifle scope, it's actually a great scope for target shooting, but the external adjustment mechanism just isn't suitable )

We also hate most of the other Diemaco stuff(C7A2, TRIAD rail, M203) too, although that's because our stupid ass goverment gives stupid requirements, not because Diemaco makes bad weapons.

But back to sights....

EOTech's and Aimpoints are almost equally expensive (or cheap, whatever size you wallet is!), but the EOTech is a little cheaper...

Since Aimpoint is a European company maybe they wil be cheaper for you guys?
