If any of you guys got info of Beretta and Breda Garands that would be really helpful...theres a 1954 Beretta Garand low SN which is going for a pretty decent price and a Breda going for a lower price, but I have yet to get a date of when it was made.

Are you shooting it or collecting it?

I can tell you first hand that the M1 Garand is an awesome piece of rifle. Having seen one being fired 3 feet away from me (by an old italian, when several dingbats were trying to get into our street barricade at night during Op. Just Cause) it seems it is pretty acurate.

When I grow up, I will get a Garand, a Springfield and not forgetting a sweet Enfield :P

I shot a Garand about 2yrs ago and it was sweet, even though it wasn't light, it seemed to be well balanced. Man it was nice. :D

I don't know how that lockbar rear site works. I'm guessing you twist the rectangular bit and then you can adjust the site normally?

If adjusting the rear site is still easy with this design, then it makes no difference. But the rear sites have to be easily adjustable for windage and elevation IMHO about Garands.

The stock repairs aren't something to worry either. Pinning a cracked stock is (well, was) an accepted method of stock repair. A good arsenal repair job should make the crack invisible or next to invisible.

Sooo if the rear sites are still easily adjustable, and the front site (whatever pb is) is to your liking, then that would be a good price for a shooter Garand where I am in the US.

On the International Harvester, the unrepaired crack and the oversand would bother me. But thats just me.

You could possibly fix the crack the same way the other stock was repaired. It is actually an easy process, but can only be done in certain areas with enough wood around it to hold it. I would have to replace the oversanded stock. Numrich has em for $75 for the nice ones.

Either way, a decent price for an excellent rifle.

I second that. Even CMP prices are a bit more and you get (judging by the photos) a lower quality (but still serviceable) rifle.

That might be a custom stock. Walnut looks to be a higher grade than standard mil stock. Probably not much in regards to collection value, but it looks nice. Little narliness in the but end of the stock looks sexy. ;)

Assuming that these guns are in fireable condition, I would say go ahead and buy all three. :)

Where are you buying these? My old man is looking to buy another. I'd almost consider it, but I have bills to pay post vacation.

Ask what the muzzle wear and throat erosion readings are, op rod piston diameter, gas cylinder inner diameter.

Anyway, Get the IH receiver drawing number and serial number and PM me and I will let you know if it is a reweld. I suspect the IH is probably a CMP sales rifle.

Any of the 3 would be a heck of a buy assuming everythings is in spec and no rewelds.

i'd be interesting in knowing where i could nab a <$500 Garand too. My bro has always wanted one but every decent one I've seen is in the ~$900 range.

No kidding, we can't get these in Kalifornia for under $800.00 at the least, the new production Garands cost as much as a M1A Scout rifle!

In Norway the M1 Garand is classified as a "military style semi auto" and is therefore illegal (just like the Mi Carbine and the M14) since all you need is 30 seconds and a nail file to make it full auto :(

But i want one.

Ok will do...

Mark Sman...I asked about the PB sites and he said they were made by Beretta.
