Sort of a stupid question but I was wondering if within these elite units where some of the members tend to have longish hair, when preparing for an operation if one of these long-haired members has light colored hair would they dye it a darker color for the sake of camoflauge?

Not an expert, but common convention usually involves wearing a hat...

 ohhh yeah.... never thought of that hahaha
must have had a dumb ass attack then
okay, but would say someone like a sniper do something like this, just to get a more complete deal when concealing themselves, even if they use a hat or helmet?
They shave their balls as 'urban camoflage' and color their eyebrows green...

I have never seen modified grooming standards where one has dyed his hair.

It's quite obvious you aren't an expert by any stretch of the imagination.
Your answer is rediculous, because the queston has noting to do with conventional units.

Have you ever been in a unit of the type in Blanke's question? From your answer I'd say it's unlikely.
When it comes to succesfully completing a mission it not uncommon for special operations units to ignore conventional grooming and uniform standards. Dying of hair isn't beyond the realm of possibility.
In SF it was more or less SOP to ignore conventional Army standards and regulations.

Yes, my answer was ridiculous, because I view the question as ridiculous.
If you'd like to explain to the boy about camoflague and concealment go right ahead, I fail to see the point.

Actually, I have seen French SF guys camming their hair with facial camo cream..
They didn't have long hair but 'short' (no way near crew cut)

well can't say I intended for my question to be taken as "ridiculous", I know I said it was sort of a stupid question, so I guess it's my own damn fault.
Anyway the only reason I ask is because I vaguely recall reading somewhere about an operation in either the Pacific Theater of WWII or Vietnam, some sort of tropical environment, where some within a group of elite soldiers or marines when preparing for the operation dyed their hair a darker color to, I can only assume, remain better concealed in darkness and in a jungle environment.
But thanks for the replies nonetheless
