So is the BMR (or whatever the Spanish 6x6 vehicle was called) being phased out, or will the Piranha III compliment them?

MARINO
01-15-2004, 05:39 PM
The BMR is only used by Spanish army(Saudi Arabia and other countries)
the piranah is just for Spanish marines.

Those pictures are from the Piranha III trials. Time ago someone posted pictures from the currently in service models...

Beside Saudi Arabia, as far as I know, Peruvian marines have the BMR.

Well, yes the M-56 pack howitzer is still in use on two of three batteries of the Mountain Brigade Aragon-I (12 pieces) the other batterie have the Light Gun L-118 (6) And also in the campaing artillery groups of the units placed in the movilisable reserve forces.

Now these howitzers are being replaced by the new spanish howitzer SBT-1 (155/52), while the mountain artillery group GAM-1 pertaining to the Mountain Brigade Aragón I, has predicted to replace their last twelve M-56 by more light gun.

Pretty cramped inside that puppy. Do you guys throw your rucks or bergins or line 3 or whatever you want to call it on the side like we do?

Mountain arty (GAM-1) had to change them for light guns back in 96 but it didn't. :(
(Aznar won elections, and you all know how budgets reductions work)

In a modern country there must be funds for all the basics needs. And education is basic need, but defense is also a basic need. If we don't have ships or troops to defend ourselves or protect our nation..... :(

It's stupid, we should have kept, our mules, to bring mountain artillery, cause there some places were helos and TOM, couldn't arrive, and mules can.

Why would they name a land machine after a 'fish'? And piranha is not even native in spain?

the Piranha isn't an american project. The first Piranha was built long before Mowag was sold to General Dynamics.

The Stryker is an american project.
