I currently have a CZ 100 but dont like the double action only trigger and have experience with the P8 (H&K USP) but dont like the ergonomics very much.
My favorite right now is a Glock 17C but I never handled it. The over all Budget is about 700€(867$).

Opinions?

The cheapest Kimber you can get here are about 850€ and the Sig 228 cost even more.

Costs more in Germany? Aren't they made there?

Get what ever fits your hand best.
Try as many pistols as you can before you make the purchase.
good luck

Ever considered a Ruger? I liked the Ruger 9mm (can't remember the model name). In the states at least, they are fairly inexpensive and function well.

If you've never handled the Glock 17C, what makes it your favorite? Cost? Looks? Personally, I hate Glocks. They feel like crap in my hand, and I hate the trigger pull. I'm also not impressed by the "over 9000% percent of police departments use glocks!", since most police departments choose their guns based on cost and politics. They may be tough, they may be reliable, they may be accurate, but they're not for me. EVERY SIG I've shot was much more reliable, and I've yet to have one misfeed in any way, and my P226 has about 2000 rounds each of .40 and .357 sig thru it. I'm obviously a huge SIG fan...if one fits your hand well and you shoot it well, I say go with that. The USP is nice too, but I'm less a fan of polymer frame guns, the USP's seem expensive for no noticeable difference in quality (vs a SIG, for example), and I've heard HK's customer service is crap (for civilians).
Ultimately, shoot a bunch, see what feels best and shoots best for you.
Then buy a SIG! :)

Didn't know they made a stainless 9mm USP. Do they still make it? I don't see it on the HK usa website...

Hmm, you must be the lucky miniscule percentile of Germans who are allowed to own private firearms.
Are you a Civil Servant perhaps?
;)

Try Sig-Sauer pistols, the best shooting NIB pistols I know.

I also could use some recommendations.
I'm looking for a Full Size pistol in either .40 or .45 calibers, preferably SIG, HK, Glock perhaps even Walther.

I've read the trigger on the Walther P99 is cumbersome and that the polymer frame may crack.

When it comes to HK, I only have experience on the venerable 9mm P7's.

Sig Sauer is my personal favorite, but the 220 would be nicer with a double stacked mag configuration for me.

The Glock 21 is one of my contenders, but other newer designs are getting my interest.

So between the Glock 21/30, The USP .40/.45 and the Walther .40 - what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

He219,

I just sold my USP compact and picked up a GLOCK 23 (.40). I couldn't be happier. I was sad to sell my USP, it is a great pistol, but I shoot much better with the GLOCK. The GLOCK trigger is great, fits perfectly in my hand...

I would recommend GLOCK, though I have no experience with Sigs.

HK USP

Im surprised how many people recommend the USP even when I said that I dont like them very much and dont want one...

About ammo, Im looking for something in 9mm or .357 Sig or perhaps .45 GAP.

There are no big Problems owning some private Firearms if you are a Hunter, Sport Shooter, collector or Gunsmith, just take the Course, pass the Test(a serious one, not easy) and get your Background check from the Police.

If you have medium to large hands go with Glock 21 and you will not be disappointed. Hands down one of the softest shootings 45's available (less recoil then any .40S&W). Also one of the most accurate .45's out there.
Glock will last forever and one of the easiest gun to strip/maintain.

The Browning .45HP can do no wrong.

If you like the Glock, go for it.
Not exactly my choice but nothing wrong with it either. Extras are dirt cheap and its also probably the best pistol for IPSC production class (G17).
Just one tip:
Stay away from the C models ...
You get dirt in the face all the time, it's much louder than a normal model and the compensator effect is hardly noticeable. Almost everyone in my gunclub that owned a C model sold it off soon after.

D'ya know what the average/decent (cheap, too, I guess) price is on the Glock 21? I was still thinkin of gettin a USP, but their pricey... I know when yer buying HK, your basically paying more on the name itself, but I'm an HK fan, sooo... I really dunno

They usually run for about $550.00 and some stores sell them for $600 +... I agree that most people who purchase H&K are stuck on the name and if that justifies extra couple of hundred bucks then so be it. Nothing wrong with H&K handguns but my preference is simplicity in which category Glock holds the edge, they are just as accurate, less overall parts, better slide finish, better trigger pull, no frame or slide safety, and magazines are 3 times cheaper and more durable IMO and in .45 it holds 1 extra round.
They are not the prettiest of handguns but they certainly the best for the money.
If you have smaller hands check out G30 which is pretty nice..

Glock 36 single stack .45 is even better then 30.

I've got big hands and have always liked the Glock 21, especially the capacity. It's shoots very well.

Buy a FN Fve Seven. Available for civilians for only $869. Includes everything a new gun would come with including 3 20rd mags.

My personal choice is a USP .40 or .45. I own a USP .45, love it. The 9mm version will be cheaper in regards to the cost of rounds. .40 would be the most expensive, at least in my experience.

My own opinion, but it would be the best weapon for the money you have to spend.

Hope that helps.

Its not legal here because even the Hollowpoints penetrate light police Body armor.

And I already made my decision, I will post a Picture when I get my gun. p-)

Dont listen to the propaganda...hollow points would less likely penetrate soft body armor.

They do, its the high speed and low diameter that causes the effect.

I would perhaps buy one if I could, it has nothing to do with propaganda. They are simply not legal here.

...no frame or slide safety...

Um, there is a variant of the USP that is double action only and has no control lever (ie no decocker/safety lever). There's also another variant (two really, one left side, one right side) where the control lever is just a decocker, not a safety (similar to many SIGs).

bought a glock 17c recently. and i'm happy about it!
I couldn't really decide between de glock or a USP, I will probably end up buying both of them :D

like posted here before, just fire with everything you can get your hands on, then decide on what felt best or just buy EVERTHING!!!! :backhand:

The FN Five Seven is Legal in some part of this country ( Depends on which state you live in). And yes, the rounds do penetrate all soft armor except for the Pinnacle armor dragonskin which is made to stop rifle rounds. By the way, what new pistol are you buying,JoaMei.? Post pics here when you get it!!!!

i believe that only practice rounds are legally avaliable to civis making it an expensive .22 pistol out there.
