GEO means "Grupo Especial de Operaciones" that is Spanish for "Operations Special Group". Marino, you have mixed up its name with the "Unidad Especial de Intervención".

The GEO is one of the two elite antiterrorist unit in Spain. It belongs to the "Cuerpo Nacional de Policía" (National Police Corps). You have also the "Guardia Civil" that is a similar corps to the French "Gendarmerie" or the Italian "Carabinieri", and its a paramilitary police force under Ministry of Defense's responsability. The "Guardia Civil" has its own antiterrorist unit, the "Unidad Especial de Intervención" (Intevention Special Unit). There are also other "SWAT" teams in Spain, but I can explain them later if somebody asks about it. (The information in places like specialoperations.com about Spain is a real piece of crap).

By the way, time ago the GEO got new weapons and among others, they changed their old H&K P9 (showed in the pictures) for brand new SiG 226.

It's very difficult to find, pics of Guardia Civil SF,for GEO SOLDIERS/RAIDS Spanish version of RAIDS published a special number of GEO.They have made a lot operations, including cooperation with US Coast Guard, and operations Abroad, Liberia, Libanon, Iraq etc.. and also catured a lot of ETA terroists.
