The kid must have had some kind of flight training. You have to know the startup sequence, which requires you to be somewhat familiar with a Cessna panel.

If this is the case, the penalties should be more severe for the punk, since he could be prosecuted for negligence, since he knew the protocols, but just didn't follow them.

.

Not at all, Cessna`s are designed so that anyone can fly them. Its really a case of playing flight simulator for all of about 2 minutes and then turning the key.........seriously. Even if he`d never play flight simulator, it would only take a few minutes to figure it out.

That happened here too in NY. I kid got drunk and stole a Cessna and landed it in Westchester NY. IN THE DARK

The scary part is that they didn't know the plane was stolen and never noticed it until it landed in NY.

Flying a plane is not hard. Get the motor started, throttle, pull back on the stick. Go fast enough on the runway any plane will lift off the ground without the pilot doing anything.

Landing is the complete opposite. Throttle back to a point where gravity exceeds lift generated by forward momentum but not enough to induce a stall.

How do you think the Wright Brothers learn't?

If you know the start up procedure for an aircraft it is not all that hard. The average person would not know the start up sequence for a commercial liner. Microsoft flight sim shows the start sequence for a Cessna.
