Blatter said women's soccer needed different sponsors from the men's game and should seek to attract fashion and cosmetics companies by featuring "more feminine uniforms."
"Tighter shorts, for example," Blatter told the Swiss newspaper SonntagsBlick. "In volleyball the women also wear other uniforms than the men. Pretty women are playing football today. Excuse me for saying that."
What the players say:
"You can't compare us with volleyball players and, apart from everything else, those shorts are uncomfortable," Zimmermann said.
"As footballers we have to think practically," Klaveness said. "If the crowd only wants to come and watch models then they should go and buy a copy of Playboy."
"If I wanted to wear a bikini," Gulbrandsen said, "I would have chosen to play beach volleyball."
Blatter should STFU. Women's soccer players are very serious, competitive atheletes. I can't think of any sport that attracts more dedicated female atheletes. When I watch women's soccer, it's to see THE GAME. If I want T&A, I'll go watch ****. It's effing disgraceful for the FIFA president to call for less practical uniforms just to show more skin.
I hope he loses his office over this. The gall of these comments is just shocking.
