I am seriously considering re-enlisting for the Air Force, Combat Controller. I have already talked to a recruiter, and with my background, he said "You're as good as in !" I just can't decide (It's a 6 year enlistment)...It's frustrating ! Your thoughts ? (is better)

Hmmm...I would do it, but it is your choice.
My dad wishes to this day that he stayed in to get SGM or CSM.

I'm considering a career as a banker - should I do it? Come on - what kind of question is that? Seems like you'd be much better qualified to answer the quesiton than we would.
What are your options outside the AF? What are your other options within the AF? What are your aptitudes, weak areas etc? Prolly an "exciting" move for some, but you sure won't learn many skills you can use on the ouside world once you leave (and you will eventually leave).
I got the most bang for my buck by becoming a SATCOM guy in a FACP (forward air control post). Lots of electronics training & I walked into a great job when I left. Anyway- consider it carefully & without undue emotion & good luck.

I understand the appeal of doing this..... it is, however, something you have to decide. It will involve a lot of negatives and positives - the exact nature of them depending on you. Are you married? Will you take a big knock in salary? What if you get injured, and land up being a "gate technician" for 6 years? etc etc. I'm assuming that because of your military experience you know what you're getting into- you won't be like some gung-ho kids who are all fully focused on being a SEAL/SF/whatever, right up until the reality sets in (day 1).
The other side of the coin is that you can't live a full life if you aren't prepared to take risks. YOU have to decide whether the potential negatives are worth less than the potential reward. Either way, good luck! :)

well, cosidering I already have an A.S. degree and a Bachelors degree in business, this would be, like, for fun, perhaps.

Just busting your balls my friend. There are lot's of things to consider. Family being a huge one. We don't know your status in that area. It's the kind of thing that needs your full attention I'd imagine. How old are you? Are you certain you'll qualify and your recruiter wasn't just blowing smoke up your ass? Could you go the contractor route like Argyll has mentioned and get paid big bucks? Personally, if I was qualified, which I'm not, I'd try. If it's truly what you want to do for the next 6 years. I'd rather have a cool regimental name and go back as a contractor like my Scottish pal though. Decked out in all that Banana Republic stuff, with a bigass Bowie knife. Yeah.... ;)

You know you want to. She'll get over it. My wife sure has. ....Oops, did I say that outloud?
If you're qualified and they need you. Which by all accounts they do, go right ahead. My hat is off to you.
I would do it man, remember you only have 1 life to live, so live it to the fullest man! What's funner than rappelling down a helo and carrying a state of the art rifle? I have so much respect for people who are in the military, I admire every soldier...

I was going through the same thing a few months ago...I was going to enter the Army to be a JAG lawyer. I am currently a law student and have been a Law Clerk for an Firm for 5 years and am about to start Law School. It would have been a huge change, albeit an intesting one. I had to weigh my oppertunities against following a dream I have had since I was young.. It is a tugh decision adn I decided to stay in civilian life (money is way too good and my work would have canned me if i went into the National guard program for JAG...) so that made the decision easier.
The other posters made good sense though, only you can make that decision, no one but you knows your life circumstances...well, thats just my 2 cents.... Good Luck making your decision...

What he said. Those guys have a cool job and get to work with all different types of units. AF takes great care of their soldiers, you can get whatever schools you want and it's not too shabby on equipment.

Would the AF make you go through Basic Training with your Army background, RIP, or would they just send you into the training pipeline?

When i was emailing an AF recruiter about Pj's he gave me the email of a guy he helped that was actually in training. I never wrote him cause i decided for me it was better to just finish college and then worry about that later (or at least that's what the recruiter said to do) but getting some info from someone in the biz would be nice i think u can go to the AF website and read about the Combat Controllers, and maybe they have email options. also i bet they have recruiters that specialize in recruiting offers into cct and pjs and stuff so try to get one of them i know they have that for SEALs anyway. i'd just look for more info from the horses mouth. (or however that quote goes) they have to have it. good luck man.

Try to look at it this way, imagine how you would feel in 15 years if you didn't re-enlist, there are two options:
1 If you think you would be ok in 15 years with not having reinlisted don't re-inlist.
2 If you think you would hate yourself in 15 years for not re-inlisting, then re-inlist right now.
I have reinlisted a couple of times and I haven't felt any regrets. woot

Exactely. Also remember that if you don't do it now, there propably ain't much chance you can do it later, so this is pretty much your only shot... Six years is pretty long though, but since you've got earlier experience I suppose it couldn't be a big dissapointment or anything.
