View Full Version : New site layout possibilities
I've been thinking about how to make the front page of the site more easy to look at so that users can see more of the topics at once. Below are 2 possibilities for a new design. The second one is just a demo page that comes with a forum mod, so I'd heavily customize that but it would look something like that. All ideas and thoughts are welcome.

I prefer the first one. It has a more military look then the second one.

ooooh, this is tough. on the one hand, i really like the orginal design and design #1 improves that look. on the other hand, design #2 is more of a blog/news style, but seems like it would need to be maintained regularly (to get good posts on the front page).
if design #2 is the design for www.militaryphotos.net, then i wouldn't want it. if it is the design for www.militaryphotos.net/forums, then i would really like it.
maybe you could combine the 2 designs, hood. design #1 is the homepage and design #2 is the militaryphotos.net/forums page. :)

I like #1, but I would like to see a different background. I like the 3-color desert cammies, but it might be time for a change.

I like #1...just if we could have some sorta other background besides the 3 color desert pattern...maybe a lil tigerstripe would fix it :D

Seoulstriker has a good suggestion, I'm going to agree with him, the forums pages could do with being more unified (ie, one page where all the main categories are displayed), but the front page is fine as far as I am concerned. That said if version two was used for the forums, there could be one link to that, and lots more 'militaryphotos' on the front page.

I really like design 2. Its fresh, clean and something new. Go with that.
Adding some more content to the frontpage is a great idea.

I like the way it is but a new background would be nice! Also maybe the words Weep em man it's America on top of the page or even all the post and picture pages!

I'm not keen on design 2, theres something to be said about overkill where theres too much info stuck about everywhere. And if someone posts a really bone topic/post/poll you dont really want it on the front page for all potential visitors to see. Design 1 keeps it simple which i think is great.
design 2 is good but it needs personalising a bit.

I like #2, but maybe add a little more "military" feel to it. I definitely like the layout.

They both have good qualities, but 2 seemed a little too busy.
Go with #1 (KISS).

Yeah #2 is busy. I prefer the one we are using. So I would stay the same or go with #1.
yeah the more i'm looking at those, the less i'm liking the idea of having that much text on the page like in #1. I think it'll end up being something like #2 mixed with the current design. Point being, the same text size as the current page so we don't all go blind. thanks.

Thats exactly what I would like. Go with that. When can we expect the transfer of layout?
Probably a while. #2 is all custom written code so it's going to take a while to write all that.

Is everyone here smoking crack? No. 1 and the current one now is hideous. No. 2 makes me feel like I'm an alumni of ITT.

Take design #1, bump up the font size for the links from HTML size 1 (who uses HTML sizes any more, anyway?) to, say, 13px. You can keep the 3-colour desert camo background, but give the main recent forum threads table a nize solid background colour, #DDDDAA for instance, to improve readability (which camo was never designed for). Finally, center the bottom table, the one with the photo source links, to match the way everything else is centered. The result will be a design that definitely improves on the current one.
Oh, and don't, don't, don't use design #2. The whole "show most recent posts on the front page" thing is simply a bad idea, so drop it.

I like design #2. But then, what do I know? I'm a Mac guy. We tend to be a little more picky with looks. ;)

I can't see number 2 but I'm gonna guess its cool. I had to script a bunch of php last semester for this damn IT class and I hated it, so I'm sure it'll take ya a while hood.
