What type of rifle is this? I went to the range this weekend and my buddy brought it along, but he told me he wasnt sure who made it. It had the date 1938 engraved on the barrel, same with an eagle with the letter "M" in the center of it.
That's me holding the rifle.....damn that thing kicked!

Looks like a Mosin Nagant M1891 Rifle

Mosin Nagant 91/30 but if it had eagle on the receiver then it's probably Mosin Nagant 1891 (much more rare to come accros) that was made before revolution. I'm surprised that Soviets did not remove that eagle since that particular rifle was reconditioned in 1938. I'm also surprised that you say that it "kicked" hard..... Are you recoil sensitive? Of all Mosin Nagants 1891 and 91/30's recoil the least since they have 28" barrel. I can shoot those all day without even being sore.
You should definitely try MN 38, 44 or 91/59 with 20" BBL, it gives a new respective on punishing recoil especially 91/59 which is a VERY light carbine.

I guess I'm not used to shooting 7.62 rounds.

a friend of mine has a Nagant (7.62) and an Enfield in .30-06
Both have a similar kick to it, love them both :)

Which model? 91/30 recoils actually less then any Enfield..... If your talking about Model 38/ 44 then your right.

I had MOSIN ;) hehe yup it's a great gun.... if you don't like to waste your time cleaning the gun after hunting or sometimes it happens that you forgot your weapon and leave it somewhere in the forest....
BUY MOSIN
the shorter one has big recoil, becouse it has to short barrel for this cal.

I think recoil is a perceived thing much of the time. What recoils a lot to one person might be nothing to someone else.
