Well, someone wanted photos from Republic of Korea armed forces... so here they are...

Not many people recognize that ROK has one of the largest military forces in the world... I hope you get some better picture of us Koreans with these pictures.

By the way, you can say black beret guys are like US 5th Div. special ops people...

Some photos here are quite old cuz Korean military has been very closed and against any public disclosures. It is hard to find any better pictures than these. So bear with me.

I do not know the exact function of those paper pieces but I heard that those pieces alert troops who crossed the DMZ line from north... Also, I heard battle instructions are written on...

However, it is military secret and i and many others who didn't serve at DMZ do not know.

Is the ROK Armed Forces modeled after the US Armed Forces? Just curious, cause it seems like many of the units are quite similar (Marines, Marine Recon, etc.) not to mention uniforms.

Back in Vietnam, I hear the most feared troops on both sides of the conflict were the ROK troops.

Ghostwolf: He's just saying that he hasn't seen these pictures... Also he's asking me whether I am Korean or not.

Ratamacue, I would say ROK forces are modeled after the US armed forces largely, but not entirely. Quite a lot of stuff in ROK armed forces are different than US forces. Especially in weaponry, majority is from the United States but we have European and Russian heavy weaponry also.

SOE: Yes, actually the cheif staff of North Vietnamese and Vietcong sent an order down to all of his units telling all troops to avoid South Korean troops unless definite victory is guaranteed. :P

Eh...? Extreme cold weather training with beret and without for example any gloves.
Is the idea of that exercise they know how cold it can be when wet and without good clothes?

Nice pics anyway.

Extreme pics mate ;) I kinda like to see ROK SFs in action.

About the cold training, I hear that they put special forces soldiers in some remote mountainsides for about a week or two, with nothing on them except their clothes and canteens, and leave them there to survive for themselves for some designated time. Something like the SERE course that US Green Berets go through. Correct me if I'm wrong, cuz I'm not sure!!!

P.S. And I did hear that South Korean Marines were really the most hardcore lads during the Nam conflict. Some one got records or pics of them in action in Vietnam?

Schiller, you are right. They drop them off like that in cold weather and let them get to some point with minimal equipment.

The Korean government has been denying the existence of Unit 707 but I will try my best to get some pics.
