I'm thinking about ordering some British assault boots but I'm trying to figure out what size to get. I normally wear size 13-14 sneakers. I have a size 13 wide Altama boots but they're a bit too big, so I think I'd need a size 12.5.
I've seen a lot of size conversion charts that say that British sizes are one size smaller and others that say they're a half size smaller.
These assault boots also come in small, medium and large, are those the widths?
Thanks.

British military sizes are (roughly) one size smaller than US makes such as Altama or Danner. The wide width fitting equates to a Danner EE fitting or an Altama Wide. Small width fittings are (I presume, 'cos I'm a wide) really narrow.
Personaly I wouldn't touch assault boots with a sterilised barge pole. They're ****e (but, that said I know some people who like them ;) ).

I second the 'not with a barge pole' motion, but there are some who swear by them.
Quality-wise, they're great. The leather is fine and the lining is comfortable. The soles aren't anything special like vibram, but they're good enough. The problem I found with them is that when you break them in it's pot luck as to whether creases in the leather form in the right spots or not. I have one pair that are very comfortable, but I've never worn them in the field, and another pair that are as uncomfortable as hell. I wore those on a 25 miler and ended up with achillies tendonitis.
They would be perfectly fine boots if only they'd use the same design as the Pro Boot. They need the addition of a padded collar and a flexible heel panel.
That's what I think of them, if you buy some try to break them in comfortably, if that's at all possible.

Be careful buying assault boots at the moment. Late last year there was a plague of boots with soles that disintegrated after only a few weeks of wear.
All the boots were pulled from the stores and who knows where they ended up, my guess is dump stores :)

Yeah, I remember that. It led to loads of TA units being told they could expect their boots after about a year in their units!
The army was down something like 20,000 pairs!
