Well they are a ceremonial body of men and posting one photo at a time for them is quite strange to say the least.

Well, they have been posted a lot by greek members. Also, I told before (in this thread) that Turkishdefense always posts 1 or 2 pics. You can see that too in the Turkish thread. There is no agenda behind it besides (friendly) posting of your presidential guards, but people have to be suspicious...

They may be ceremonial, but in the end they're still grunts in the Greek Army, right?

Ceremony today, but if need be, switch to combat gear and go to the front!

Posting a single image at a time of our presidential guard by a turkish person (whose country has an official casus beli on my country) in this thread idiotic. It doesn't take a rocket-scientist to realise that he's aiming agaist the skirt stereotype. Such a person tries be a smartass.

Here you are right. Yes those men have their history to modivate them! A history of valour and honour when their grand-grand fathers liberated our homeland against the short-lived asian rule. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't be here, with our Democracy, the Aegean, our frappe and all the rest of the greek characteristics. :)

NATO Newsroom:Following an approach by pirates, the Turkish flagged merchant vessel ELGIZ NUR CEBI issued a distress call. The rapid, determined and coordinated response by both NATO and EU forces however foiled the attack. Both NATO and the European Union Maritime Force (EUMARFOR) units swept into action. Closest to the scene, the Greek warship HS NAVARINON (F461), quickly closed in on pirate craft. In a co-ordinated action with a helicopter from the German warship FGS BREMEN, working for EUMARFOR, the pirate craft was quickly stopped in the water. Specially trained boarding teams from HS NAVARINON boarded the vessel and went on to find extensive stocks of weapons including RPGs and other piracy equipment.

Standard uniform is the Greek camouflage. You see it in all units, except the special forces of Navy, called MYK. These guys are using much more uniforms and patterns.

About weapons, infantry is using HK G3 A3/4.
Special Forces are using M4 and M16.

Rubbish! Fancy F-16s and Mirages but no money to outfit troops with the basic requirements.

I must say, I'm shocked that all Defence magazines and press don't raise an issue and ask why these basic and necessary articles of war are absent in most Greek units.

And please no one give me nonsense about "body armour is issued on as as needed basis". The Army daily 24/7/365 business is war, and in war soldiers need the proper protection.

Compare pics of Greek soldiers in Afghanistan with any number of other ISAF forces. Or better yet, look at the Poles and Spanish who were in Iraq and see what properly outfitted troops look like.

you will say that greece spends no money in body armor??? i dont think so.
maybe in the future... siamidis has some nice products and not only for foreign-armies, or not?!
the early past show ME that bodyarmor is in potential war-scenario very necessery!
even the ancient hellenic warriors had bodyarmor...(:
p.s. you never know how it comes

Greeks do not need body armour because:
1. Chances of warfare are slim
2. Chances of warfare with an army that fights close distance (3rd world "opium" troops) are slim
3. Chances of warfare in an urban area are slim. None is going to invade Edirne (Andrianoupolis)

Since modern warfare shows that only 10% of the enemy and friendlies die from small caliber weapons, buying 600,000 kits it totally expensive and ... useless.
Greek infantry dogma is totally different from western european or american due to the terren (Ancient Greeks fought when MLRS didn't exist)

Body armor against artillery is useful but again Infantry command sees no need for that. They don't see turkish artillery as a threat probably...
As an infantry officer i also find body armor a waste of money. None can storm a hill with more that 10 kilos of kits on him and 5-6 are the weaponry.

Defence magazines are private owned cooperations made to make profit. They are not the official opinion of Hellas.
Plus some students of journalism in IEK-Gavdos with 9 months in navy, washing dishes, can not have an opinion in military matters.

As i said Greek Infantry Command thinks body armor is useless.

As for Afghanistan:. When was the last time someone shot at a UN/NATO greek soldier??? Remember??? Back in… Korea.
That tells us two thinks: They don't see the medical and engineering troops as enemy and they don't shoot at people that they don't see as enemy for 60 years
Greeks in afghanistan are not there to invade or kill “terrorists” but to help and save lives. If it was possible they wouldn't even carry weapons or wear uniforms. Loosing 2 million people the last 100 years made greeks value human lives and hate wars.

PS Poles and Spanish have armies to fight "terrorists" not other NATO armies. How long do you think they could stand against 1st Turkish Army??? 3-4 hours???

It is because all greek defence magazines serve a special internal political party or a foreign arms supplier. There is not ONE serious defence magazine in greece, this is for sure.

Hellenic Defence is the most worthy but sometimes it has some b***** too.
Military is an organisation made in secrecy not open information. Not mentioning that you can check its abilities AFTER a war.

Chances of warfare are slim
2. Chances of warfare with an army that fights close distance (3rd world "opium" troops) are slim
3. Chances of warfare in an urban area are slim. None is going to invade Edirne (Andrianoupolis)so basically you are telling us that we are depending purely on luck?and IF despite the slim chances war does break out, what then?you cant be serious

If Greek infantry command (and i stress IF) thinks body armor is "useless" then they should stop operating on the basis of 40 year old Army manuals ,and adapt to the needs of 21rst century warfare (like they one that they are preparing to fight,if need be)

Icarus is right, the equipment of infatry soldiers (boots, camos, webbing) is of extremely poor quality and so is infantry training , that is a sign some blokes up high in the hierarchy have yet to grasp the meaning of the words basic soldiering. They too can not have an opinion in military matters ,since they behave and think like public servants (and potential MPs) and not soldiers

Thank god the new A/GES is moving rapidly towards the exactly opposite direction.A new infantry training center is due in the near future

Loosing 2 million people the last 100 years made greeks value human lives and hate wars. That is wonderfull! Lets ***** them of their G-3s and give them flowers instead!

Forgive me for the tone iloxos, but "valuing life" and "not wanting war" is the driving force for building up proper deterence.Exactly because you want to avoid war .Si vis pacem para bellum as they used to say

As i said Greek Infantry Command thinks body armor is useless.

If this is their reasoning they should seriously consider dusting off the Warsaw Pact invasion plans and contingencies.

Why is it every modern military has concluded the exact opposite? Have we figured it out and they are idiots?

I've seen pages after pages, and aside from the special forces, the regular forces look under equipped to say the least. Let's no beat around the bush when it comes to the Army. I mean, THANK GOD for the Navy and Air Force if you get my drift.

And while they're looking at proper armour and personal kit, how about evaluating some modern camo? The Lizard pattern is how old now, 30 years?

Greeks do not need body armour because:
1. Chances of warfare are slim
2. Chances of warfare with an army that fights close distance (3rd world "opium" troops) are slim
3. Chances of warfare in an urban area are slim. None is going to invade Edirne (Andrianoupolis)

Slim? Says who? I see completely the opposite.

@Icarus_22: The Lizard camo is perfect for the Greek environment, no need to change pattern. What must change is the quality of the uniform and of the M65 field jacket.

As for the Greek leather boots, during my service I didn't have a problem, although I would prefer wearing some top quality ones (Haix, Bates, Lowa) 'cos the Greek ones weren't as water and cold-weather resistant as they should be.

my friend with our foreign department ("zeibekiko + komparoi" school) do you really believe we are going for a war?
all the scenarios are for a 2-3 days warm episode defending, based upon air force and navy. Thats why command doesn't spend a dime on infantry or engineers...

my friend they don't think they are going to fight a modern war...or even a war as I said.
Politicians and ass kissers are armys worst enemy.

Thank god the new A/GES is moving rapidly towards the exactly opposite direction.A new infantry training center is due in the near future

The training got so pumped-up from the previous A/GES that our troops became Rambos... come on Chris... do you think anything will change???
only if we LOOSE a war...

the new infantry centre will be needed when the 12 infantry regiments/battalions will have less than 100 people each to train (with 9 months duty).

That is wonderfull! Lets ***** them of their G-3s and give them flowers instead!

Do you know personally anyone who has fired his weapon in UN/NATO missions?
Why behave like an @@@ when you have orders to help???

We value life by not attacking anyone. We value deterrence by having military similar to a large rich west european state. We just dont value aggression. Some dont understand that and they stay outside EU starving.

Come on chris... leftist??? Please don't insult me. I am not a person to speak against the army but I am realistic with the governments and the funding we get. I didnt became an officer in f@@ infantry for hating our army.

I am telling you again: where did people fired at us??

My cousin was in Afghanistan at that time. If we are speaking for the same incident he told me that the bombers thought they were not Greek but German. No Greek fired a weapon back. The next day the engineering company continued its work as usual.

PS I believe that we ever send 33rd Mech-Brigade in Afghanistan as a strike force it will be extremely underequipped. But 33rd expects orders since 2002 ;) Is Giorgos going to send army in A-stan??? Dora???

Btw the Greek Army is urgently looking for a number of MRAP vehicles ,so that scenes like the one above wont lead to casualties among our troops

Hope so. Our vehicles are not made to carry medicines in mined roads.

@iloxos
Just curious about this term used by you ie 3rd world "opium" troops
Can you explain this term to me?You can PM me if you want. Thanks

A third world country had attacked us once using opium drugged troops in close distance due their inability to fight a modern war.
PS we had not artillery or airforce.

Greek military command equips troops after its needs. They dont expect a war and if war happens it will be against a similar enemyIf in our borders were hostile-Germans we would train-equip differently. ;)
Modern military are trained based on professionals and not a large reserve conscript army. We dont even have an enemy

Camo is good for the ground we have. We need of course a different uniform like the modern US marine. And a new rifle (FN made), boots etc. Body armor can be optional for the ASDEN coastal defence battalions.

the answer to your question is ,yes most definately .Especially with that school of thought in the Foreign department.
in our case the equation is the following: "apeacement"=war.
I wont enter the other subjects because we disagree 150% and indeed as Femto says it would ruin the thread

thanks guys!!! i know about the tank park in Katehaki but there are only M47s i think... i ll pass over to check!!!

as for the M24s. My father went there when they arrived in ASDEN. They were leftovers from WW2 italian army. The cavalry command found them proper for coastal defense so all the "good" guys from Evros units went there- my dads M48 had crashed a house (the driver fell asleep) almost killing the poor family inside and got 6 months "prison" penalty and a nice set of golden teeth!!!!
My dad told me two things from that time: there was not one f*** tree anywhere in the island and inside one tank they found bones from some poor soldier killed 30 years before!!! I think he stayed there for almost 6 months before returning to Litohoro.

Yes, just one more clarification: the M1 is used as a ceremonial weapon, only by the Presidential Guard (evzones). All other units use their regular rifles (M16 or G3) when performing ceremonial duties.

Hopefully not. We need an air superiority optimized fighter, like the Rafale or the Typhoon. We have plenty of F-16s to undertake a fair share of all other missions.

HAF is the strongest at the region until 2014. turkey then will accept the first F35.

F16B60 is a 1978 designed plane... We prefer the Typhoon. F35s will arrive after 2020 replacing F15B50s and M2000s

There is no point to discuss things like "strongest airforce" after 2014 since neither turkish airforce nor HAF made orders for next generation fighters yet.
So..yes.
Right now and untill new orders will be on the agenda HAF is by far the "strongest airforce" in the region.
As well in numbers of modern aircraft and support assets(like AEW+C,High-SAM systems,Integrated Air Defence organization) and more so in pure quality.

Hello everyone!

I have (a) question(s) for you, who have served in last decade army in Greece or just know the current situation of conscription in Greece.

My father is Greek (from Kos) and my mother is from Findland (where I just now live). Ive lived in Greece for six years, when I was child, but our family moved to Finland, because those times (1996/1997) my parents decided that its the best solution to start school in Finland, which my parents found the best solution. Oh, forgot to say, I born in year 1991 (now 18 years old).

I assume that most of you dont know how conscription works in Finland, so Ill explain it to you, so it would be easier to answer my question, what Im asking soon.

So, Finland has universal conscription, which means that every man, who is 18 years is liable to military service. Conscription starts from that year, when man has his 18th birthday and conscription ends when man has his 60th birthday.

So, we had our citys call-up (every city, town, etc have its own call-ups allways in autumn) in september and in Finnish call-ups the conscript has the possibility to influence his brigade, regiment, etc, where he wants to make his military service. I was ordered to serve in Kainuus Brigade (eastern Finland, Kajaani City), where I possibly serve as a Jaeger (normal soldier), because I said to the draft board (three officers from Navy) that I want to serve as jaeger, not as artilleryman or service corps. Still, my aim is to apply to Special Forces (to Finnish Rapid Deployment Force, FRDF).

The minimum service time in Finland is 6 months for those, who just want to be rifleman, grenadier, etc (normal soldier without other special training). 9 months service is for all, who will become drivers and militarypolice. 12months is for all those who want to become Reserve officers (NCOs and normal Reserve officers). Finland takes two times in a year boys to the service (January and july). In my papers, which I gained from call-up) I have to go to the service in year 2010 july the 11th. I can change the time to do the service by showing a medical record, if Im not able to make my service.

So now I come to my real question:

I have been thinking 1-2 years that I would like to serve in Hellenic armed forces, IF I have time to make 2nd military service after I have ended my military service in Finland.

Ive been talking with my parents about the possibility to make my military service in both countries, and my father has said that if you live outside Greece (have lived more than ten years(?)), you dont have to go to Greece for military service. We got in february 2009 papers from Greece, which proove that Ive lived in Finland over 10 years, which means that I dont have serve in Greece.

But could it be possible to go to Greece to make my conscription, even if I have now papers which exempt me from military service in Greece?

And probably the third question:

Ive also heard that the system has changed in Greece in these few years, so the ONLY place to serve the conscription would be Ground forces (not Navy or Air Force). Is this true? So does this mean that Navy sailors officers, etc and Airforce soldier and etc would be ONLY for those, who have considered it as a future proffesional? (I mean that Navy and AF would be just professional army).

The place that Ive intrested to serve would be the Hellenic Marines (πεζοναύτης, 32nd Marines Brigade "Moravas" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellenic_Army_32nd_Marines_Brigade) (32η ΤΑΞΠΝ Mοράβας), because my father has served in the Navy, so it would be nice choise to serve in Finland in the ground forces and in Greece as part of the Navy. Ive also intrested about 71st Airmobile Infantry Brigade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellenic_Army_71st_Airborne_Brigade) (71η Α/M ΤΑΞ), If its possible to serve there.

In Finland, IF you decide to apply for a special brigade, regiment, etc (Special Forces, like FRDF), you have to make official application and pass through entrance (which includes fysical and psychological parts). Then, if you pass, you start your service in that Specified Special Force group.

I heard that Greece the system is different. IF you want to apply for example, OYK, other Special Forces, you need just to go to the city, town, where the brigade is and just tell there that you want to serve there. Is this true? If it is, does this mean that I could just go to OYK school and when I arrive there, I just tell them that I want to serve my conscription there? Because I understood that you just need to go to the place and no need to make any fysical or psychological test. Just your own will is enough and that you can quit in ANY part of the training your conscription.

IF this works like I assume, does this mean that if I want to serve in Marines, I just get me a ticket to Volos? And how many months would my service be? They say 3months, but Ive heard from many sourcers that the service lenght is "different", even if the law says only 3month for those outside from Greece?

Hopefully, you could answer to all my questions. Its very important to know what to do IF I have a chance to do my service and where.

Greetings from Finland!

Manolis Anthopoulos 18-year old boy. :)

hello patriotaki and congratulations about your wish to come here to serve.

others will answer more precise than me( i served til 2001) but i am sure you absolutely can serve in the Hellenic armed forced despite your service in Finland. I had a friend who was a Greek from Australia and he came and served although he could avoid it.

I think you will serve three months but you can apply to join the Special forces to serve 9 months there as is mandatory.

OYK does not take conscripts anymore sorry. Maby in the future they will return to the old system.

Stay patient and the other members will answer all your questions. I just wanted to greet you and say a few things as a start.

Your father is right. You don't have to serve in Hellenic Armed Forces, but you can serve if you want. In any case you have nothing to lose by asking those questions in Hellenic Army General Staff
http://www.army.gr/en/contact.php

And probably the third question:

Ive also heard that the system has changed in Greece in these few years, so the ONLY place to serve the conscription would be Ground forces (not Navy or Air Force). Is this true? Yes Only Army takes conscripts. Navy and Airforce has only proffesional soldiers.
The Hellenic Marines are part of Hellenic Army and they don't belong to the Navy. Ofcourse they use Hellenic Navy ships and Zubr's but they belong to the Army.

In Finland, IF you decide to apply for a special brigade, regiment, etc (Special Forces, like FRDF), you have to make official application and pass through entrance (which includes fysical and psychological parts). Then, if you pass, you start your service in that Specified Special Force group.

No that is not correct. If someone wants to serve in the Special Forces he must apply for it and then he must pass the fysical and the psychological exams just like in Finland

And how many months would my service be? They say 3months, but Ive heard from many sourcers that the service lenght is "different", even if the law says only 3month for those outside from Greece?

Its very nice that you want to come here and serve your duty as a soldier even if its for 3 months or more. I am sure you will find out all your asnwers if you contact the Hellenic Army General Staff

In both the marines and the SF you will need to pass a physical test and be of category I1 (giota 1) which means clear eyesight no scholiosis etc ie be of full health.

If you pass the physical and are awarded I1 you may apply for Marines or SF.
They will hold their own assesment and selection course through a series of athletic tests ie push ups, have you run a mile.....
If accepted you will be called upon to accept their offer or decline. (note if you are of less service time you will have to decline that priviledge and serve the full 9 months).

Once you are done with basic training you will then be moved to the SF camp where they will teach you tactics etc and then further training.

You may quit at any time during the SF training and shall be relocated to an infantry unit. (Peziko)

Hello again!

Thanks to everyone for quick answers :)

BlackhawkCY mentioned something about the physical category in Greece? Which are the categories and how are they called? In Finland we have these kind of classes:

A - Perfect for doing military service, no exeptions in service
B - Able to do military service with few exeptions
C - Exempt from militaryservice (no need to do any service in peace time)
E - Military service delayed to other time (for example, you have a broken leg and need to heal it, so you wait 6 months and then go to army)

I was in a medical research before call-ups and the doctor wrote to my medical certificate (for army) that I belong to class A, so Im able to serve in FDF :)

No that is not correct. If someone wants to serve in the Special Forces he must apply for it and then he must pass the fysical and the psychological exams just like in FinlandOk, nice to know this. I just thought maybe the system has been same at this part as my father told me (well, he served in the Navy three year, when the Junta existed) he had just went to OYK training and stayed there one month when he made his decision that he wants to serve as normal navyman. So he explained that in those times people who wanted to join SF, needed just to go to the training place and do the service, IF they were able to do it (I mean that your physics and mental health were ok, and you didnt get any problems to serve till the end, so there were no tests before service).

If you pass the physical and are awarded I1 you may apply for Marines or SF.
They will hold their own assesment and selection course through a series of athletic tests ie push ups, have you run a mile.....
If accepted you will be called upon to accept their offer or decline. (note if you are of less service time you will have to decline that priviledge and serve the full 9 months).Well, nice to hear that I have the possibility to do my service in Marines :D Because Ive always liked everything which has something to do with Hellenic Marines. If any Finn would ask me something what I would miss from Greece, it would be the sea and thats why Marines would be very good choice from me.

About those test if you want to apply for Marines, how are they? I mean is there some kind of scoring, how much you can do push-ups, run a mile etc? In Finland the scoring is madelike 3 points is the max. and minimun 1 point. (For example if you do up to 35 push-ups, you get the max points from that part of the test.)

I dont want to overestimate my condition but nowadays I can run in the Coopers test (you know, where you run as much you can for 12 minutes)2800 meters, which rated as good in FDF, I have gone to the gym for three years (but in this year I have gone almost every week two times) and I have received very much power to my muscles to make things hard and I can swim very well (in Finland 200 meters is sign for a good swiming skills if youre applying for any SF group). So would my condition be enough to pass the tests? Oh, and do I have to make any mental test, when Im applying for any SF in Greece?

And about the service lenght:

Well 9 months in the Marine Corps wouldnt not be so much for me, because Ive always been very patriotic of my two countries. In Finland most of the people think that undertake the military service is the way to show own patriotism and will to defend the native homeland.

Ive always been proud of my Greek roots and my life is mostly influenced from the Greek culture (my ways to be nice to other people and Im very extrovert). In my Call-ups I made it very clear to the Navy officers that in my military service I would like become a Reserve Officer or atleast NCO in reserve. So like I explained, If you pass and be succesful in your service and you become chosen to do your service as NCO or Reserve officer, your service lenght is 12 months.

Those (possible) 9 months (or even the 3 months) in Greece would be very nice time for my life, to live with other Greeks and same time to learn my Greek better. :)

Also my second reason, why I would like to serve in Hellenic Armed Forces:

Ive been thinking my future job (Im now in High Scool, last year) and Ive decided to become a FDF officer. And it would be very positive for my career to have experience in other army too. Because Ive been thinking that If I succeed to pass the Finnish Military Academy and start to study as an Officer in the army, I would apply for abroad job (like in Afganistan, Chad, I mean Peacekeeping and other operations), where I could be very good officer, because my knowledge of many languages (Finnish, Greek, Swedish, English, German and French) and I would be maybe a good contact between Finnish and Greek army forces working together in international missions. :)

Thanks to everyone for answers!

Does anyone know if all navy helicopters have these colours or not?

Also which are the external deferences between the upgraded C-130 and these who doesn't upgraded yet?The upgrades are only in cockpit?

When I said above for navy helicopters I mean our navy helicopters.

Also another question: if the colour that our figters F-16 have, the 'top gun' as it said,is succesful why our F-16 seems always too dirty and like they have painted many years ago?The colour is fading. For example look this new bk52 advanced and see the older(for few years) F-16 bk52..I know that we are not like Netherlands and other countries in Europe who doesn't have problems with their neigbours but at least we should have our figters in better condition and with their property camouflage.

Would you consider it equal to, say, M24 or M40?

No and.... no :-)

So, what will it be its use if/when its fielded?

I see that the Hellenic Armed Forces already use quality rifles from abroad. If it can'tcompete with them, is it supposed to be more of a marksman weapon rather than a long range sniper rifle?

BlackhawkCY mentioned something about the physical category in Greece? Which are the categories and how are they called? In Finland we have these kind of classes:

A - Perfect for doing military service, no exeptions in service
B - Able to do military service with few exeptions
C - Exempt from militaryservice (no need to do any service in peace time)
E - Military service delayed to other time (for example, you have a broken leg and need to heal it, so you wait 6 months and then go to army)

I was in a medical research before call-ups and the doctor wrote to my medical certificate (for army) that I belong to class A, so Im able to serve in FDF :-)Categories are of giota (greek letter I) 1 up to 5
I1 = Completely fit both psychologically and physically
I2 = Minor health problems such as eyesight or inability to distinguish certain colours
I3 = Greater health problems asthma etc... (might be issued a riffle)
I4 = Health problems (are not issued a rifle)
I5 = Unable / Unfit to serve

About those test if you want to apply for Marines, how are they? I mean is there some kind of scoring, how much you can do push-ups, run a mile etc? In Finland the scoring is madelike 3 points is the max. and minimun 1 point. (For example if you do up to 35 push-ups, you get the max points from that part of the test.)For the physical test you should wait for someone else to answer your question since i only know how the test works for the cyprus SF units.

The KEFEFS is a rugged, heavy-barrelled, highly accurate and exceptionally reliable boltaction sniping rifle firing the 7.62 mm X 51 NATO ammunition.
It is available in two versions which differ in the length, weight and external shape of the barrel only. The KEFEFS-M version coated with highstrength, heat-resistant camouflage paints (forest and desert) is intented for use by military snipers while the KEFEFS-P version with a slightly longer, heavier, externally fluted barrel and an oil-polished stock is designed to meet the need for a police sniper weapon.
Either version has a cold-hammered, highprecision, free-floating, exposed barrel made of special high-grade steel.
The receiver, bolt and all metal components are also made of special steel.
The ergonomically and elegantly designed stock, which is made of high-quality walnut with cross-knurling, is of the Monte Carlo model.
The simple and robust bolt-action mechanism with a 50 opening angle enables the bolt to be flexible and easy to open.
The third lug of the three locking lugs located at the front of the bolt acts as a rail which gives the bolt a friction-free and smooth movement. The firing mechanism incorporates an extremely quiet, thumb-operated safety the stiffness of which is adjustable.
Trigger pull and travel can also be adjusted. A wide range of telescopic sights and sight mounts is available to suit the user's requirements, since it is the sighting system which plays an important role in sniping.
Scopes are adjustable for windage and elevation. Night vision devices are also available.
The weapon is supplied with a bipod (having a quick release mechanism), a carrying sling and a complete field-service kit.

if any body knows if greece wants to replace the non-tracked artillery?
the m114 a1/a2 and m101 a1
maybe a idea were to buy used fh-77 from germanys-stock and put it on hellenic build elbo (steyr) trucks.... for example like the NORA B-52.

M114 and M101 are for museums only after 40 years of service. some are kept in stock for replacements for the northern front.

the non-tracked artillery will be replaced by tracked or wheeled for the heavy brigades sometime in the future like Caesar or used M109GEA3s.

the only SP artillery will be the 2-3 squadrons in the 71st, 1st and 32nd brigades. the Pack56 and the M114 used there will be replaced in the next years with a light 155mm howitzer like ULH.

at this point the lack of money has stopped all buys.

@iloxos

dont you think we could do this job on our own?
like i said... i heard that germany got some fh-70 or fh-155-1 in storage...
maybe we could buy them for cheap money and built our own wheeled artillery
with elbo trucks.
the question is...
would this be a cheaper alternative, iloxos? what do you think?

stukas i don't know why it would be cheap... putting a 20 years old cannon in a top of a truck it just makes it faster to move around. slower by much of course to reload and much worst in shooting straigh...
maybe that would be a good solution 20 or 10 years ago but now not only we can find cheap used M109s everywhere but chinese produce a tracked 155mm howitzer for 300,000E...
its just a waste of time and money. money that could turn the force of 400 M109s we have/will have into a modernized artillery force.
the first thing of course is to start accepting the m109s from germany

in my opinion after finishing with that we need extra 48 PzH2000s, 36 or 48 light sp 155mm and a new light MLR system to replace RM-70s.

have you ever considered that the new greek army 2010 has only 60,000 people? who will really use all this artillery???? we are turning into west europeans...
