Seems like the Leo 2A6 will have some trouble getting around in a CQB environment with that huge cannon.

Yeah, KMW is playing stupid.

Yeah, KMW is playing stupid.

CQB? In Greece? Where? We don't realy have a lot of urban areas!
At the Evros river area the long gun would be perfect.

Get real CYW. ****head US politicians will never allow the sale of F-16s to Cyprus. IMHO you should buy the MiG-29 OVT (MiG-35) or the Su-35, also with vectored thrust, or even Mirage 2000-5 Mk2s (the fictional Mirage 2000-10 appeared only in the movie "Les Chevaliers Du Ciel"). Whatever the final choise, it will throw a lot of people we don't like into quite a tantrum, hehe.

:) tantrum? more like national crisis...they made such a huge f*****g fuss because the S-300 missiles could reach the Turkish coast...imagine what they'd do if we buy some assault planes...they'd probably use that as an excuse to invade us again..."oh no, Cyprus is preparing a major invasion on the North-Side to start a new Turkish-Cypriot genocide...we have to kill them all!" :cantbeli:

they made a huge ##### mess because we let them....you dont go announcing purchases like that ,before they even arrive on the island..;-)

we have learned our lesson the hard way...but we learned it alright..

there are ways..remember nobody knew about the Hinds until they saw them flying ,armed and ready :)

the problem is political pressure that could cancel the deal...not the usual boasting about bombing etc..i would love to somebody try to bomb Russian technicians/pilots..

kosta_ddr, synonyme,

Do you have pics from the Zubrs from the Sarissa2006 excercise?

Do you also have pics from the dolls of the killed soldiers that were spreaded in the field of the excercise, with the intention to simulate the battle environment better?

Thanks!

Hello. I have only Apache, Huey, Chinook, some VBL's, Leo's, M-109's and m-113. And of course pics with me.:)

Ehm... we "need" the gun not the reloader! ;)
And the T-59 is the Chinese version of the T-55. Eastern block tanks were build with less komfort then west ones. Its natural that a 120mm NATO gun would be to big for the turret.
Trust me, the autoloader would be essential. The AMX-30 turret is quite small for the 125mm gun. A human loader would waste ammo capacity. I used the Type 59 upgrade proposal as an example of what happens when you cram a big gun in a small tank with a cramped turret without some form of automatic loading. Besides, the ammunition for the 125mm is two-part (projectile and propellant casing), as opposed to one piece for the french 105mm, so for fast loading you still need the autoloader.

I would like to know more about the load-bearing system the Hellenic special forces are issued with....In some pics they carry commercial combat vests (Blackhawk?) In others they seem to be carrying some version of the US LBV in Greek cammouflage pattern

Also I noticed a marked absence of body armor.

Finally I would like to enquire about the Greek Desert BDUs.....

Dear @ Ozymandias
First off all Welcome to this Forum Brother!

As for the varius combat vests that are used by Hellenic armed Forces it depents from the unit they belong too.
Some units such as DYK, ETA, & Z'MAK allow to their members to have their own combat vest, when other units use the same vest for all the members.
You can see this in the photos that folow

http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/7116/myetateam6jt.jpg
in this photo man belonging to the Hellenic Special forces (probably ETA) wear all of them Greek made mody armor, while the guys on the edges the one from right and the one from left use the old Greek Combat vest while the others use the new one

in this one men from Z'MAK wear a different one

I scanned this photo from a magazine that had a full report of the Hellenic SF unit "ETA" visit to Spain and Italy. Also in the hi-res picture that i scanned you could see the Greek emblems in the Berets, and the Greek camo, so yes i am quite sure about it

Sorry but you didn’t understand me. I wasn’t saying that the guys in that picture weren’t Greeks but that were some Portuguese in it. They all are wearing Green Berets (like the Portuguese Paratroopers); in Spain the Paracas use a black beret. The other thing is the uniforms, you are wearing camos and the ones that I thing that are Portuguese are with jump uniform that are use for freefall in Portugal. And I think I'm recognizing some of these guys from my army days.
But above all, I think these pics are really god, and I hope that the Greeks and Portuguese do same exercises.

My Friend @Boina verde you are Right!!!!
My apologizes!!!
I scaned the photos before reading the articles, and i just read the captions and the title which was "Greek ETA team training in Spain and Italy"

Then i read the article and it says that in Spain in the exersise "Destello Plateado 06" the Greek paratroopers made a jumb with Spanish, French and Portugueze Paratroopers
The portugueze paratroopes had 6 teams and the frenc also 6 teams, while the Spanish had 80-90 Partroopers from varius units...

I apologize again and thank you for your corection...

I dont remember if our paratroopers made a jumb together in the past, so maybe this is the first time!
I believe its great news!!! You always win when you cooperate with your allies!

@Cinoeye
I am afraid i am a little uneducated in that matter. I know that the uniforms are made in Greece by a Greek factory that cooperates with Greek Army but unfortunately i have no details.
I also know that this "Greek Lizzard" camo was used only by the Greek Special Forces in 70's. It started to been used by the Army in 90's...

But yours are better armed!
In the Portuguese army we only have 3 brigades and the only really well train and equipped is the BRR (the new Rapid Reaction Brigade, made of the Paras, Comandos and Special Forces). Even so, the Comandos are the ones that are in worst conditions. You can see that by the lack of equipment, son they will be replacing by the Portuguese Paratroopers in A-Stan. Instead of G-3 we have Galil and other toys… ;o)

Yeah i said about communist Tito,who wasn't even Serb,he was a Croat.
If Chetniks had the power in Serbia,i don't think they would provide help to communist forces.Probably they would stay neutral,or even help Greek against Communist and Hotza's Albania.....
And dont compare Yugoslavia with Serbia.

You are showing your ignorance in every post of yours.
First of all if chetniks had won there would be no Yugoslavia but seperate states. Tito defeated and executed Chetnik serbs along with Ustase croats and other groups so yugoslavia could still survive undivided by nationalistic movements. In any other senario Chetniks would have formed their own serbian state, ustase their own croat state and so on.
So if Chetniks would have won there would be common border with Greece.

Probably they would stay neutral,or even help Greek against Communist and Hotza's Albania.....
Help Greeks against Albania???

Yugoslavia was based upon the serb ethnicity and run by them. Serbs dictated the policy in evry aspect. After Tito died their power grew stronger, their stance became more and more oppresive and reached the climax with nationalist Milosevic who cause all those wars.

Yugoslavia was the union of South Slavs based of Tito's view of socialism sans the USSR. Serbs were the majority population so it is expected that they would be heavily involved.

To say things like it "was based upon the serb ethnicity" is a fallacy and from the looks of it I am inclined to believe you are making an unknown error of general ignorance rather than spreading a lie you know is false.

The SFRY existed for almost 50 years and in that time a non Serb was ruling it for the lion's share.

I didn't know the Greek Army used MLRS.

phoebus
08-12-2006, 10:36 PM
Yes we bought some 36 M270 MLRS in the mid-90's, plus we also bought 102 ATACMS with them.

phoebus
08-12-2006, 10:40 PM
PS: In addition we also have 116 RM70 MLRS.

As far as the ATACMS is concerned, it basically looks like this:

We sadly have no photos of any of those guys fired by a greek M270 MLRS :-(

Don't really know the Magna 44 manufacturer, but I also add some more Magna 44 pics, used by Hellenic Navy underwater demolition teams. Click on thumbnails or links to open pics to original size. Additionaly, click HERE (http://www.hellenicnavy.gr/dyk_gallery_en.asp) for Hellenic Navy underwater demolition comand picture gallery.

I have some more pics from our training exercise. However, I have to clear them thru my PAO before I release them. Good ones though. Especially the litle yellow submarine(trial version, I dont think they actually ever used it) at the base in Skaramongas. For now these are all I have.

Here we are doping at the range.

He is however a reserve for the 3MAL.............p-)
Dimitri, I insist to my opinion. A 3rd MAL (I thought that 3rd MAL was finaly disbanded for good on 2004 - Am I mistaken?) reservist SHOULD be a person who has been recently left the army (well... few months to few years) and still fit to do the job. As we all know a 3rd MAL reservist should not be someone who left the army before 15 years (or more). A 3rd MAL reservist should not be selected after "political pressure" (am I mistaken too?) just because his civil job (magazine publisher / journalist) gives him the oportunity to force the leadership to keep his VIP warm jumpseat for him on a "Charlie" once in 5 years or more. Finaly, a 3rd MAL reservist should be in perfect physical shape/fit and be able to run many Kms every day and exercise himself. Participating as a "reservist" (by paying the exact fees & tickets) on international raids or exercises (and keep arriving at the finish line nearly last) doesn't mean that he's also good for the job. Beeing photographed for his own magazine publishing purposes as a "beyond 2000" super-comando operator... doesn't mean that somebody is really a super-comando operator. Is he?

We all (well you are still young and active pro member of GC specops forces) USED to be in the shape our army demands... but not any more. We MAY think or MAY feel like comandos, but doesn't mean that we are still comandos. Are we? I could say that I was one of the lucky bastards who managed to stay into the SpecOps "alley" (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/image.php?u=15649&dateline=1140159656&type=profile) (we've discused about it few months before - remember?) and keep a daily "touch" with arms, ammo and toys for big boys... but doesn't mean that I'm also the "right stuff" for a 3rd MAL reservist. Right?

What difference does it make if he's active or in reserve? The fact is that many of us are "keyboard" commandos and he's a reservist! LOLMy brother phoebus (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=18822), feel free to check the above answer to flanker7 (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=1882) for more details.

I guess you're right man.

Anyway, apart from all this, I need to ask a technical question about this "Colt assault rifle". Is it a version of the M4 Carbine with different barrel and M16A1/A2 butstock or something?

I used to buy Guns and Ammo magazine and I remember selling some "semi" versions of M16, like that one...

Please enlighten me.

Because the Army wanted the use of this sensor for the FCS.

But as far as I know the greeks are the only one using this meter.

I've heard it was tested on the Leopard2 ones by the Germans, but it proved to be useless.

Yes, but other Leo2s users don't have 6000m FCS solutions. Only 4000m I think. So, maybe it was nessesary for the longer ranges

But as far as I know the greeks are the only one using this meter.

I've heard it was tested on the Leopard2 ones by the Germans, but it proved to be useless.

For three reasons:

-The old Maingun had a shorter Range.

-The measuring of Windspeed a firers position was useless when the tank was in covered position and camoflaged.

-The measured windspeed at the firers position is not equal to the one at the Targets position and between them.

My inteligence agents report that a young lawyer (maniac 1/72 scale tank modeler) broke the police line and managed to climb on the Leopard II turret (http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7688/p9090006sb4.jpg). As they also say... he keeps denying to come down! People report that he keeps shouting "Go away, this belongs to me, it's mine!"

Sounds familiar to you Mr. Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246)?

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Your intel is quite wrong :D. I meant that I'll post pics from the refresher course, which, fortunately, is so scheduled as to leave us free for the afternoon (at least today).
And so here are a few pics from the MP refresher course I have been called up for.

Note that in the last pic the yellow lanyard, one of conscript/reservist MP trademarks, is worn casual style (see my friend on the left) as indeed I used to wear it most of the time, while (on the right) I am wearing it as per regulations, although in both cases it is rather longer than normal regulations length, which denotes an old timer with more than 6 months service behind him, according to MP traditions.

LOL rofl LOL rofl LOL

Good job Costas and nice MP vehicles pictures! See you soon

PS 1: "Karakoli" is an expression used in Hellenic Army to describe a bad-ass MP.
PS 2: I have to admit that Costas Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246) is a REAL talent while shooting with pistol, rifle or shotgun. As his shooting range instructor, I have to admit that he's a briliant student shooter and I'm amazed with his scores!

can i become a little indescrete and ask some questions about the shooting range guys?its a subject that interests me the most...chris450 (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=14449) if you had your MP mailbox (which seems to has exceeded the stored private messages limit) cleaned up, I'd be able to PM to you and give some explanations. Costas Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246) is an athlete shooter and a dedicated friend of me for many years. So, I guess he's a lucky who got the unique priveledge to come and participate into action into a (hmmmm how to say...?) "different" and more "realistic" shooting range than ordinary athlete shooters do! Here are some thumbnails (click to maximize) showing us together at the snow covered range.

Costas Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246) engaging multiple targets into a "multie-boogie" simulated field, under experienced LE officer supervision. Even he's a civilian, his pistol & rifle headshot scores make us all wonder...!

Costas Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246) posing with CO (Comanding Officer) before night shooting exercise he also took part. As a maniac smoker, he didn't even let his cigar. Well, he needs some "low-level-flying" running!

Costas Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246) while having ****** with a rifle in his hands. He's engaging targets in diferrent directions and levels, using CompM2 NVC sight & Surefire 6P combination, under LE officers supervision.

So, if you are still interested to start as an athlete shooter on pistol or else, I recomend to ask for infos to your local shooting club. It's the most easy way for a civilian. For extensive infos for shooting sport activities in Greece, click on the following links:

Yes, Lord Byron died there while fighting the

Byron served as a regional leader of Italy's revolutionary organization the Carbonari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbonari) in its struggle against Austria, and later travelled to fight against the Turks in the Greek War of Independence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_War_of_Independence), for which the Greeks consider him a national hero. He died from fever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fever) in Missolonghi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missolonghi).

reposting is one thing.....altering the pics by putting your name one them is another.....and mate..please we are not stupid....you have google ads on your site...

Welcome to the Greek Military Photos Website
Support the Site by Clicking on the Advertisements
and regarding your duty as a greek ...reposting ,(and crediting the owner) would suffice if you "want all fellow Greeks to see" as you claim...apropriating them (coz thats what you are doing) doesnt have anything to do with patriotic sensitivities...

if you want more people to see them, put your adress in your sig or something...

some folks put in some real effort to shoot those pics...you are spitting in their face acting like that

I dont know what your trying to suggest but it it irrelvant to my previouse post i will continue to do what i have done and for the curious people yes i am from australia my paranets are both Greek but when you live in a country where your greek reading and writing skills aren't challenged everyday of course you have diffculty for this im not embarassed. Chris im a world away and i have done more for Greek peoples pride then you. I should send you some emails i have recieved had from people after viewing my site. Here read some.

From Stefanos Kyriakou

Hi,

Just want to say, love the website - the photos are fantastic.
I am based in Australia and let me tell you, all my Greek friends that saw these photos wanted to jump on a plane and go to Greece to join the army.

From Nicholas Kavouriaris

First of all thank you for responding to my e-mail,
many web-sites rarely respond to e-mails let alone in the same day.
I wish you were curious as to why any Greek around the world woundn't want to serve his country, but these days patriotism has been replaced by selfishness and seems old fashioned.
I am a Greek patriot and nationalist and it has always been a dream of mine to serve my patritha. My father was foolish and didn't speak Greek to my brothers and I and sent us to Greek school instead. My Greek is decent but I want to become fluent in my language because culture, religon, and language are all tied together. I also want to be closer to my elderly grandfather who is in his 80's and I want to learn as much as I can from him and make him proud. I think it is very important to strengthen my cultural ties. I think it is the best thing for me to do at this point in my life, I'm 19, and it would be a privalege to serve Greece. I want to help Greece any way I can and I don't want to see it become a nation full of non-Greek immigrants, I want to change Greece for the better. It is my duty as a Greek. Thank you again for your response. Znto n Ellas!

Look mate, the point is just do not put your watermark on these photos as you did not take them. Host them (with proper due to the people who DID take them: ie....from 'Stratigiki magazine issue 1, Anthony Tsagaratos'), but do not apply your watermark on them because not only is it illegal, but it is bad taste to present them as yours or your copyright (which is what you are doing with your watermark).

well you can go to Mars too, what you are doing will still be wrong...and mate..Greeks are proud enough without having to jerk off at military pics..how old are you anyway?..this is not a "who is more patriotic" piss contest... we are talking about THEFT here... apart from the "Greek pride" you have done enough for your own pocket too...

in other words(since you dont seem to get what i am saying)

you are just serving your little ego here with that watermark, not Greeks Greece or anything remotely related to them

GrkWebMaster
09-20-2006, 04:48 AM
Yes we are talking about theft the kind of theft which you and others actively participate in this forum. When you scan and post images of the Greek army from magazines you have broken copyright regardless whether you watermark or alter the image in anyway.

You have no right and permission to post these photos on this forum and you complain when i post images from these magazines please spare me these ridiculous contradictions.

For what reason you attack me i dont know perhaps you secretly jerk off at the thought of being the first to post these photos?? :backhand: .

"Whait a min.You are not from Greece. When i send you e-mail about using my art ( in Greek language )you replay that you dont understand and that you are from Australia, right?"

"this is not a "who is more patriotic" piss contest"

Yes this isn't the place the compare each others patriotism however you choose to attack me has Greek in your previouse post's so i must reply to your side steping the issue when you yourself have no foot to stand on.

Dont mistake me for being a gypsy that my friend is a little closer to home to you. I will no longer reply to such desprate post's.

The old fashioned way is good, we all learned it that way, but the automated ranges show you what you are doing wrong or what you could do better quickly, like right after the first run through of targets. It records your aim point before and after each round so you can see just how spastic you are! :)

You don't have an EST 2000 (Engagment Skills Trainer) or a FATS Trainer (Firearms Training System) available?

Ofcourse there is a Firearms Training System (FATS) available with about 1200 possible scenarions loaded into it and I personaly have full access (after seting a visit timetable) but (as expected) it is NOT available for citizens! It is true that my good friend Costas Dark Avenger (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/member.php?u=12246) is an excelent shooter but he's a civilian too and it would be very 'risky' for some well known reasons to 'invite' him without the (imposible to get) higher aproove...

http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/3368/fats1ci1.jpg

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/6885/fats2mg8.jpg

We can all understand that simulator devices could be very helpfull to train aircraft or heli pilots, tank or missile launcers crews etc, but I believe that you cannot learn CQB and pistol / rifle tactics into a well airconditioned room shooting a screen. The FATS could be used for some hours but the real training is out there, under the rain, into the mud and cold weather. For reasons we cannot explain, our oponets will not fight us back only during daylight on a warm sunny day.

As a conclusion, I believe that the 'old fashioned way' is the only effective way!

PS 1. If shooting on a screen could be enough to teach CQB and pistol / rifle tactics, the ITTS firearms school (http://www.internationaltactical.com/index.asp), the Gunsite academy (http://www.gunsite.com), the BlackWater academy (http://www.blackwaterusa.com/academy), the Practical Shooting academy (http://www.practicalshootingacad.com), the International security academy in Israel (http://www.securityacademy.com), the Sierra firearms academy (http://www.sierrafirearms.com), the ISA security academy (http://www.isa-isa.com), the Yavapai firearms academy (http://www.yfainc.com), the TDSA academy (http://www.tdsatulsa.com) etc, etc, etc... would use ONLY screen simulators. As far as I remember my last training course there, I didn't find any FATS simulator or else.

PS 2. If you think that there is any EST 2000 or FATS simulator, to simulate THIS (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/2465/ekamselfconfidencegd8.jpg), I'll leave shooting range tomorow morning...!

Its really bad when you dont understund what everybody tells you!
You are free to host the pictures in your site but dont you get it?
Its really rediculus to put your watermark on them. Many of "your" pictures was shooted from me personally.
Anyway! Hope someday you will understund!

No its quite acceptable i put a water mark on the images so people know where to find more images when others decide to borrow the images i have hosted on my site. When you guys commit copy right fruad and it is copyright infringment to psot images the way you do on internet you cant sit there and tell me to what degree it is acceptable what you guys do isn't acceptable either but you will justify it anyway you want to suit yourselves.

Answer: Both photos were obtained and used without consent of the artist thus infringing on copyright. So dont sit there and tell me i dont get what others tell me Airborne. I got no problem with you but common there many sides to the argument of copyright and only 1 right one i am afraid written permission.

Bro, the issue is that you are not reposting pics, you are adding your watermark to them. This is what crosses the line. They are not your pictures you cannot present them as if they are.

The picture is titled as "Hellenic Air Force MPs serving in Afghanistan". The "Greek soldier stand for the pictures at the vehicle" (as you wrote) is actualy a Hellenic Air Force 2LT, who happened to be the comanding officer of a multi-nation MP team at the place where they deployed. For your info, I give you another one picture showing other members of this multi-nation MP team too. As you understand, according the above explanation, the pictured Greek officer did not simply stand in front of some other nation's Mercedes Benz vehicle just for the photo... He was the comanding officer of this Mercedes Benz vehicle.
