The term "Oriental" is placed on inanimate objects ie: Oriental rugs etc. The word you should use is Asian.

I think African-Americans are the worst drivers in regards to ethnicity. Old grannies are the worst drivers by age. :fork:

I would take OFFENSE at that if it WERE a Chinese Airliner. But it's an AMERICAN airliner. United to be exact.

And Hong Kong airport is crazy.

Personally I think the worst drivers are new drivers. I myself dont feel comfortable behind the wheel of a automobile as of yet (and im 19). I find that younger drivers are more ****e to do stupid things and take dangerous risks. So I'm going to wait till I feel confident I can drive without going overboard and doing stupid things like my friends do when they drive.

I feel an automobile is to be respected, and in order to respect it properly you have to understand everything about it (i.e. know how to repair/fix damage, engine work and all the good stuff). Thats why when I do decide its time for me to learn to drive I want to build the car that I am going to drive. This will also teach me to respect it more, since my blood sweat and sometimes tears will be put into the vehicle to make it just the way I want it.

The second worst drivers are females in mustangs. They mix like oil and water. Just because your newer mustang has traction control doesnt mean it wont spin out. For example a girlfriend of mine smashed up her moms mustang, she came around a corner too fast in the wet, got raw. She didnt know what to do so she did the worst thing you could possibly do in that situation....hit the brake. Once that was done she 180's into a merridian and racked up a nice $2419 bill. The next instance is another girl I know with a mustang (ironically the same year as the other one that got smashed) backed into me and my buddy at a gas station. It didnt cause any damage to our car or her's but if we were back any farther it would've. Ironically the same girl a few weeks later wrote off that mustang into the side of a semi on the end of my road. Luckily nobody was hurt.....

1) No, that pic is NOT photoshopped.

2) Yes, that is a NORMAL approach.

3) The Paralax of the camera just makes the aircraft look close to the runway than it really is.

If you want to learn WHY these aircraft look like this on a normal approach, check out this webpage:

http://www.airsider.net/files/2001/0101/003/history.htm

Modern Time

But what made this airport so special? Whenever you flew into Hongkong during Kai Tak-times, you know what it made so unique. Because of its position, surrounded by hills, the arriving aircraft had to fly a very special approach.

First of all, the plane soared over the harbour inside the city, in direction to the so-called Checkerboard, which was marked with an immense red-white painting. Just in front of the hill, and only 300 feet over the ground, the plane had to turn into a 60°-curve to the right until the runway was finally visible and the aircraft could touch down.

It is the spectacular approach, what made Hongkong Kai Tak so special. Where else could you fly so close to the ground, surrounded by buildings and hills, and all that in a strong curve!

If you could hand fly a fully loaded 747 in bad weather 300 feet above the ground in a 60 degree turn--and NOT crash

You knew you had balls!!!

That's the old Kai Teck Hong Kong International that closed in 1997 and moved to Chep Lap Kok International. The plane is on the famous checkered box approach. Flew it on MS Flight Sim and as a passenger in real life many times. Good fun! The wing tips of the planes look like they can clip the TV antenna off the closely packed apartments below.

no photoshop, no camera tricks. THats a normal approach into the now closed Hong Kong Kai Tak airport.

It has a 37 degree right turn just before the threshold.

Maybe it is just me, but the runway seems to be at a really odd angle to the camera in relation to the houses. But maybe my eyes are all out of wack or something.

I guess you'd stop doing that if they docked your pay to pay for planes you crash.
