Is MP.net a reflection of the military these days? I always imagine armed forces guys sittin around - swearing up a storm, talkin about "broads", calling each other names (mostly in jest, but sometimes not) and generally making fun of every thing/one as a way of making serious matters/surrounds a bit lighter.
I'm seeing more and more "Timmy and Johnny are fighting again", "Mr. Meany spoke harshly to meeee", "so and so is swearing at meeeeeeee" style complaining that I only last heard sitting in the back of my parents car when my 6 and 7 year old brother and sister couldn't tolerate the other even looking at them "Mooooooom he's looking at me again!".
Does that happen in the military? What do your superiors say when you take complaints like "Sgt. I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't say that 'The only things that come from Texas' line again.... it makes me feel icky inside" - to them? Do they promise to mend their wicked ways?
In all seriousness.... what gives?

I'm going to take a guess that there's a big difference. I can't picture a bunch of soldiers talking about half the gay stuff that comes up here like swing dancing and favorite hand moisturizers.
My guess too is that the average age of a MP.net user is about 14-15, so that probably explains part of it too.

When I first came here I really expected the membership to be primarily comprised of 28+ career soldiers.
Of the 11K member list, I'd guess 40-50% are dead accounts and less than 15% of that list are semi-regular members. How many of them are actually 18+ and/or in the armed forces is anyone's guess.

Unless you really mean it. When I was in, you somehow managed to swear in every sentence. When I got home off my first training weekend aged 17, I found myself swearing a blue streak at home (after two days!!!). Mother was not pleased.
Drill was always punctuated with hilarious, scathing insults, the parade ground ringing to the RSM's voice screaming "You ****ING NOB!" or "Dress by the left, you stupid ****!" ad infinitum...
Swearing is fun, kids!

Also you'd swear at your mates and stuff, calling them names, not really harshly, just because it was fun :)
Yeah, lets bring a more military atmosphere to MP.net. What do you say moug, you ****ing ****head?
p-)
(any complaints, Kids hear worse in films 'n stuff ;))

Depends on where they are at. Military life is a very stressful environment and you need to swear to get that ****ing steam off. The only time when military guys actually have to control their mouths is when they are in uniform AND in the eyes of public.

Harsh language isn't prohibited in MP.net. The rules are actually meant to keep the language down to a minimum.
Yeah, us military types tend to over spice our language with four letter words, but when in a public or professional environment, we typically try and keep the profanity to a minimum.
As far as the maturity level.. well, if you look at all the posers and virtual studs, aspiring little farts and and such.. the level seems pretty low.

Immaturity.
rofl rofl
The irony is killing me.
I dont mind swearing if its in jest or said indirectly, but when people get downright nasty, yeah, thats annoying.
the first thing my drill said to us was "do any of yall care if i curse" nobody said anything so he said" good cause i wasnt gonna ****ing listen any ways" "now lets get some **** straight"
thats how it started. i will admit yes i have a potty mouth on here and in real life, its just the way i am and how i have let myself fall into that rut over the years by hanging out with the grunts. as for here, i agree most of these guys and girls cant even get a moped license( 15 in the us) nor have any clue what the military service is like for those of us who are in or have been in. im not trying to take cheap shots but i think alot of the language has to do with immaturity and i dont leave myself out of that group.
what do soldiers talk about at work-
male soldiers_ who'd you nail this weekend, whered you go, shoot any guns, drink any beer, nail any chicks, work ojn your car, nail any chicks, did she give you head, did you go to the club, etc
girls- whos cheating on who, whos a slut, who left who at the club, and i cant think of anything else i have heard. i try not to associate myself with the females i work with because they cause trouble.
hope this sheds some light

I swear too much. Everybody says so.**** those people. There's a subtle art to using profanity and California Joe you've got the gift. Some people really know how to ruin the magic of the word ****.

Annoying yes, but can you handle it when you hear/see it?
This isn't a business environment, grade school (ok maybe it is that sometimes), or formal family gathering here. It's an Internet forum for crying out loud (I was really thinking for F**ks sake).

That ain't cussing.
**** **** **** Bollocks Wanker **** et cetera.
Humorous rude words aside, I have no problem with swearing. I try not to swear around young kids, or in uniform in public (kind of a respect thing there).
On the Interweb? **** yeah. Nothing beats a swear for emphasis.

I just watched it! :D Must have missed that episode. Not last season but the one before. It was the season finalle episode when Larry went in as part owner of a restaurant. He hired this old Jewish chef with torrets syndrome and the guy let loose with some choice expletives in front of everybody in the restaurant on opening night. Anyway, if you dig that show than you're all right with me. New season starts in December and I can not **** ing wait.

A malfunction rifle can really be stressful on a soldier (http://www.greasyburger.com/Movie_0004.wmv), but swearing helps him to relax.
