These pics are from the book "1er RPIMa" by P. Poulet.

The CQB pics are the INVEX teams and the pics were taken at the CTA centre de tir adapté in Pau near the airborne school and the SF helicopter flight.

Yes it's true; everything from an embassy to a supermarket...the book can be purchased from this shop with a Visa card and a telephone.

You'll find many other pictures in the book; it's a coffee table book, not a lot of infos though.

Cool pics, people! :D

I heard that the 1st RPiMA is, in French, 1st Marine Paratroopers Regiment. Does that mean there is a French Marine Corps? By their gear and uniforms, they look more like SAS-CRWT.

They are an army unit. The "Marine" title is for historical reasons.

The original title (in the 17th century) was "infanterie de marine" because they were onboard ships ready to land if necessary.

That name was changed to "infanterie coloniale" when France started conquering colonies in the 19th century; it was reversed back to "infanterie de marine" in 1958 when it was clear colonies were soon going to be a thing of the past.

Infanterie de marine belong to the army, not the the navy; the navy has got its own landing forces, in charge of either protecting navy bases and police duties onboard ships "fusiliers marins" or naval SF operations "fusiliers marins commandos".

The specialoperations.com article was written by me way back when the site was owned by Tom Hunter, I'm not sure where he go the pics though.
