A delegation from the US Congress and Senate met with Turkish businessmen from the textile sector in Istanbul. The US Congress and Senate members, who support the Turkish textile and ready-made sectors’ international fight against China’s unfair competition they made at the White House meeting, were present in the meeting.
In a statement during the meeting, Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Ready-Made Exporters Union President Suleyman Orakcioglu indicated that Turkish textile and ready-made sectors made a very important cooperation with the US textile and ready-made sectors last year. Orakcioglu said they announced to the world that an economic ruin would occur with the unfair competition environment after the elimination of the quotas in 2005, as he reminded that they led the movement known as, the Istanbul Declaration, together throughout the world. “Our maintaining the support of politicians and bureaucrats by organizing meetings in Geneva in the level of World Trade Organization (WTO), in Brussels in the level of European Union (EU) and in Washington in the level of the US is a very important joint enterprise realized by Turkish and American non-governmental organizations. With the synergy that we formed by working together, we attained unexpected successes for the name of world textile and ready-made sectors. This joint enterprise is a concrete signal for realizing our next targets by working together,” Orakcioglu acknowledged.
Emphasizing that they aim to make projects, which will be benefit both sides in the upcoming days, Orakcioglu said this study will be an example for other sectors. Orakcioglu announced that they will organize an exhibition in one of the most important US museums in Washington, in Smithsonian Museum in October. They will display the Ottoman Sultans’ caftans, which currently displayed in Topkapi Museum in Istanbul. Orakcioglu added that they will also present a collection prepared by modern designers
