For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?"

Here's an update for you.

Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why?

Because women realize its not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage.

I don't understand why he would bother coming into the thread and making a reply if he didn't have the intent on coming back. I don't even understand why he insists on coming to the off-topic section, as apparently just about everything is unacceptable, biased, or "shutter"-enducing unless it is posted by him.

I'm still trying to figure out how people know that the person they propose to is that person. I mean there are millions of people in the world and marriage is so timeless. Like you can't get married and then change your mind can you, or have I just been looking at puppies and staring at clouds to often. I guess what I mean to say is, how do you know your right when you think you know?

Well... there isn't an easy answer to that one. Many people think they have found the right person, only to find out that they haven't. Personally, I don't think that there is any "one" right person. I think that maintaining a relationship requires a deep desire to do so. If one desires to succeed, that's a major portion of the battle won.
Every relationship will have ups and downs, and the reactions of the involved parties during those down times are crucial.

I feel like knowing someone is important, although there are cases where people have gotten married after only a few weeks, and they had great marriages.
People told me that I would find out things that I didn't know about my husband after we got married. It was the old.... "you don't know someone till you live with them theory." That wasn't the case with us. I had "liked" John since I was 15 years old, and we had dated since I was 16, so by the time we got married... I knew him very very well. There were no surprises. That's not to say that we didn't have rough spots. If we hadn't refused to give up, we might have even divorced at some point. We didn't, and I was more in love with him at the time of his accident than I had been at any time in our relationship.

I guess what I'm trying to say is....
There is no way of knowing ahead of time what's going to happen, but would you really want to know?
Do your best to make sure that you have the kinds of discussions that help you really get to know someone. Talk about dreams for the future. Talk about children... do you want them? Talk about religion. Talk about literature and music and movies. Talk about family.......

in other words... talk.... spend time together.... nothing is a better indicator of compatability than that.

okay..... I'm sure that was probably more than you wanted, but I felt the need to try to answer your question. :)

My first three wives were sure they knew what they wanted, but they were mistaken. I can't say I blame them for deciding that what they really wanted was a full-time husband and a home with a white picket fence.

Being apart would be very difficult, but if they knew it going in, they couldn't complain too much. I mean, isn't that like marrying someone and then trying to change them?

It's nice that you could end things amicably. It makes things so much easier. It took my parents several years to be "nice" to each other, and it's a lot better for all of us now. :)

Not too sure if the subject is on topic and it is a bit weird sharing, but what the hell.

My fiancée decided to become a pagan and became both polygamous and polyamorous two months before we were supposed to get married.

Needless to say, the wedding did not happen.

The first woman I dated, a year later (I did not feel a need to rush into the dating scene) was the complete opposite...fairly hardcore Catholic, abstained from ***, and did not drink.

A word of advice, goiong from one extreme to the other is not healthy. :)

I am 33 though and even though I am not getting any younger, I do believe I will find someone. I do not believe there is JUST one person out there for me. Nor do I think focusing on looking for it will gaurantee you find someone...usually it happens quite the opposite. Go on with your life, be social, and then suddenly *poof* there is this person you suddenly want to spend your life with.

I always value the opinions of experts with personal experience, however in my case they didn't like being alone at home while I was off in some mudhole doing my job.

You should hire an elementary school English tutor to help improve your atrocious grammar. You'd still be a butthole, but at least you'd be able to write in proper English.
