a bit of both for me, they provide a delayed way of paying for stuff, but then they bite you in the arse later, right now i have a £900 balance!

No they didnt deny my application...I just havent found many places that accept AE...its usually if they dont accept a Visa then they'll take a MC and vice versa.

Try renting a car with a debit card.
Try building a credit history with a debit card.

I've had AE cards (personal and business) for about 40 years and rarely find places that don't accept it.....If they don't, I have Visa, MC, and Discover. Also it's comforting to know that I don't have a limit on my AE cards.

American Express Black/Centurion, this card is by "invitation only", you can't apply for it. To be considered you'd have to spend more than $150.000 a year on AmexPlatinum. For a membership fee of $1000 a year you get personal consierge that can/will do anything for you, plus all the regular AmexPlatinum perks, free upgrade to Concorde (not anymore though), sold out tickets, etc, etc, etc...
It is a prestiege thing

Rather than blaming a piece of plastic for your problems, own up to the fact that YOU are the one responsible for your situation.
