I know the answer to this but I'd like to see how you all feel about this.
Is the CF prepared for warfighting operations in the very unlikely event that they should be called upon to do so. And I mean large scale offensive and defensive operations.

I have no idea of the Canadian forces preparedness for war but from what I've heard the whole situation is quite "questionable" when it comes to launching full scale operations on foreign soil.
Then again why should they prepare for offensive operations?

Can you be more specific?
Questions:
Against who?
What's the objective?
How much support from the Canuck public?

Well I'm not saying it's a likely scenario. But hypothetically if there were to be a war in North Korea and Canada wanted to contribute forces to the invasion do you think at present our forces would be able to carry out warfighting operations?
I'm sure all of you agree that any military should have warfighting as its primary task.

errr.. CAF have tanks.. plastic tanks that is...
I don't believe the CAF is ready for a major military operation in the near future. The military is simply underfunded for too long.

Individual what FallenAngel meant was the Canadian Army is replacing its Leopard C2s with the Stryker mobile Gun System. Stupid idea, replacing a MBT with a LAV?! :bash:

when ww2 broke out Canada declared war on germany(1939) with only 4500 troops in the army, a few dozen anti-tank guns, 16 tanks and no modern artillery, the airforce and navy on had a few recruits and outdated equitment. within the first month of the war there were 58 330 people who voluntered for their country. by 1945 Canada had 400 navy vessels and 100 000 sailors, and 250 000 canadians joined the RCAF.and around a million soldiers this is with a population much much smaller than our current one
i think Canada could do it again if neccessary

Ships are much more expensive now than then. So are MBTs, aircrafts, etc.

yeh i know that, but im pretty sure we wouldnt need that many vessels(400), and 250 000 pilots, if we were to go to war becouse of new technology, and our allied forces. i showed it as an example that if Canada were to go into major combat agian they could build up the military like they did in 1941 if neccessary
we had a question in History class one day and the question was...If Canada had to go to another world war who here would Volenteer? only 2 (including myself) raised our hands out of 30 people.

Yes
Canada has one of the most professional fighting forces in the world.
In the event of a large war Canada will be there and so will I.

I have a hard time believing that our gov't is going to shell out any money on the military unless our country, its people or the health of the world is at jeopardy. If another World War started, we would be there, including myself. If that happened we would step up with men and equipement as always, I like to think anyways. Until then, I think we will continue on our peacekeeping and assistance operations where ever the need.
