Soulagh Announces the Creation of 40 Battalions within the Commando and Special Forces

Baghdad – Baqer Bakr Soulagh Al Zubaidi, interior minister, has announced that 40 battalions of the commando and Special Forces formations, under the interior ministry, would be created soon.

On the sidelines of the 1st security conference for the battalions and the commando regiments' chiefs, Soulagh pointed out that the security conditions in Iraq have gradually started to improve. He praised the role of all the security authorities, whether in the ministry of defense of interior ministry, especially the commando forces that used to represent the striking force all over the country. He pointed out that these forces have saved several Iraqi cities from falling into the hands of terrorists, including Al Musel and Al Faluja.
The interior minister noted that the ministry is in the phase of construction and the right reformatting. He said, "The coming days shall witness great developments on the security arena. The Police Academy shall be launched soon and two courses would be introduced to it, for training officers, for the purpose of preparing efficient cadres to join the police. The minister pointed out that the training and graduation periods would vary from 9 months to two years.
The interior minister rejected all statements that accused the ministry of negligence. He denied that his ministry is responsible for Al A'emma Bridge incident. First, as the incident has taken place due to opening the bridge that was not ready for visitors. Second, as the responsibility of security in Al Kazimiyah region is the responsibility of the defense ministry.
As regards the preparations of the interior ministry for the plebiscite that would take place on the 15th of next October, Soulagh has disclosed that the ministry would apply security plans that prescribe executing searching all the homes and residential buildings of citizens, due to receiving intelligence information that confirm the readiness of terrorist groups to enter the country one or two weeks before the plebiscite.
With respect to the decision that was recently issued relating to the movement of vehicles in Baghdad and distributing them in accordance with the fuel distribution (odd and even), the minister pointed out that the reason behind issuing this decision was to alleviate the fuel crisis and the traffic jams in Baghdad streets, due to the suffering from the delay of the arrival of police patrols to the site of accidents.

Heard that they had been sent to various countries around the world to train and US are involving them in as many ops as possible to let them gain experience and learn the latest tactics. Good to see there is so many commandos. This will decrease the reliance on USA. Hopefully by 2008 the will be not much US troops left in Iraq.

Hmmm...that many battalions tends to diminish the meaning of the word 'special'.

Hmmm...that many battalions tends to diminish the meaning of the word 'special'.

Not really. "Special" in this case means "highly-trained", as opposed to the regular troops in the standing army. The regulars do the job of securing the country against big battallions of outsiders and occasionally help out with the Special Battallions, who specialize in CoIn jobs.
