Thats a very cool pic, I'd definitely piss in my pants if I saw one of those german sheppards charging at me. On a related note, the Brazillians paratroopers also make use of wardogs that are actually trained to jump out of airplanes, totally independent of their handlers.

Labradors are just as effective.
They were used as traking dogs in Vietnam (http://users.mildura.net.au/users/marshall/Trackers/trackers.htm)
