There are hercs and helicopters on the way but not pictures of those yet. Also there are engineers hitching a ride on ship, and various other personnel flying down on the Polaris transport that those air force ppl are boarding in the pics I posted.

If you havent ben to Halifax defenitly check it out, most people who come here dont want to leave.

I wonder why we didnt send DART? where they just not needed?

Yea man Halifax is a great city, was there back in 98. Must make it back one of these days.

I'm not sure about the DART question tho. As you may or may not know DART isn't a unit but takes personel from many units when they are needed. Usually when it deploys it does so in the hundreds. But this mission is taking up about 1000 CF pers. Perhaps they just found that because of the large numbers of troops and sailors and airmen it would be easy to have them in a different command structure.

Or maybe it's just that because DART goes into countries that have little or no disaster response infastructure. But this time they are going to the US where there is a myriad of emergency responders and agencies. So we're going there to aide the US DOD in rescue and reconstruction not to lead our own seperate group in those efforts. I know Canadian divers will be working with 2nd Amphibious Group of the 2nd Fleet, US Navy.

well one woudl assume if they depoyed DART it would be publicized as it was in the Tsunami, I was just thinking that perhaps the US Army is handling what they woudl be doing, setting up aid stations, clean water facilities that they simply at this time arent needed?

Probably most of the people deployed on this mission have served in DART.

They probably didn't send the DART because it's biggest function is water purification. I would say that the US have enough of those machines, they probably wouldn't need them. I was on the DART when we were given the warning order to go to Iraq. 2RCR was going to submit the D&S platoon. As you all know we didn't deploy, but rather sat on our kit in the drill hall on 4 hrs notice to move for a month. Good times.

Good stuff. A word of caution to anyone comtemplating a rescue ride from one of our Sea Kings though - you'd be safer swimming out.

I kid, I kid. Good luck troops.

Just heard on the news that the task force is now going to be going to Biloxi (or however you spell it) Missi. They had to transit through the Hurrican off the Eastern coast.
