View Full Version : Coldplay in Concert

I'm watching the Coldplay Live 2003 DVD, and I just...I love them. I can't get over how wonderful they are. I mentioned to my mom about going to one of their concerts when they come here in Florida (or even Atlanta, Georgia) but I don't think we'll be able to go. It would be a dream if I could...

Have any of you guys been to a concert/performance of theirs? If so, I would really love to see pics and hear your stories. And anyone who is going to see them soon (I know NcDeuce is), tell me when you're going! Also, I have one thing to say to you.

I hate you.
oh, and take pics :)

I am going to see them at Austin City Limits on 9/25.

http://www.austincitylimits.com/festival/2005_schedule/schedule_day3.asp

They go last after Franz Crapinand.

I hope they play more of their older stuff but hey I am still looking forward to seeing them.

I doubt they'll play a lot of their old stuff, they have an ok slot so I'm sure they'll get through X&Y and then play a single or a big number off of Parachutes and/or Rush of Blood to the Head... Yellow or Clocks or something like that. Or even something new if you're lucky.

I admit they have become more mainstream, doesn't make me love them less, but it feels like "the secret is out." I remember when they weren't too known, considered much more of an indie band. Their songs felt less...ummmm studioesque.

That's awesome DNA, have fun dude.

I would've bought tickets the other week, but I realised, he's too up his own arsehole, so I didn't. Wish I did now, they're going for over £100 on ebay, could've made a fortune.

coldplay sux indeed... just whining about how misreable their lifes are.

Not exactly...Coldplay's songs are optimistic; some have depressing undertones but that is paired with hope to change for the better. Usually the optimism comes from love, or their "better half"; for example, in Amsterdam, most of the song is like this:

Come here, oh my star is fading
And I swerve out of control
And I swear I waited and waited
I've got to get out of this hole

but is laced with hope:

But time, is on your side
It's on your side, now
Not pushing you down
And all around
It's no cause for concern..

and by the end:

Stood on the edge, tied to a noose
and you came along but you cut me loose

Coldplay is not "emo," and if we tied the word emo down to all lyrics that are sad and about love, then more than half of all music would be considered emo. Radiohead is more depressing than they are, and they're considered much better than Coldplay by many.

All his songs sound exactly the same.

And how do "Green Eyes" and "Clocks" sound the same? "Easy to Please" and "Crests of Waves"? Their newest CD is the only one I consider to be close to sounding the same. All artists have their own sound, like painters have a certain style to their paintings. You can tell an El Greco from a Leonardo, etcetc. If you mean most of their songs are mellow, then yeah, I completely agree. But that doesn't make them the same.

you still suck, mwahhahaha

Seiyuuki, oh no, I don't mean to be that way, I really like to discuss this. :) Being on a Coldplay forum is different, everyone loves them and although you can have interesting discussions about the meaning of the lyrics, there are no opposing views, like what Q and usa just gave. It's cool to hear other opinions.

I like Coldplay. Sure, Chris Martin's politics and self-righteous opinions can be a little grating sometimes, but can't all celebrities and musicians be that way sometimes? They live in a very self-absorbed bubble.

But yeah, I like their music. And if you have a problem with that, you can kiss my ass, if you know what I mean.

coldplay is for pussies. aside from his music sucking a watermelon through the muffler of a ford escort, his whiny political **** gets on my nerves. You know, how he wrote "make trade fair" on his ass and all that. Now he just draws equal signs on his hand. Big deal. He should at least get those equal sign tattooed on his hand. Then I'd respect it. But also the fact that I dont believe that he knows anything about international finance. He would, after hearing about the plight of the artic seals, would jump in the Indian ocean to save them. As for the music, how about some

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds!

I have a question for people who don't listen to to a band because of their political views.

What bands do you listen to?

the only music genre that doesn't have members talking about politics or current events is ANIME SOUNDTRACKS.

buttchowder
09-11-2005, 06:16 PM
no, dont take me wrong, i listen to some political music. The clash is one of my favorite bands, even though i disagree with their politics. Black Sabbath is very anti-war (not that i am pro war or anything) and hippie, but no one realizes it because they are heavy metal.

It's okay Mr. Peeps, I just wanted to say something like I knew who the heck Coldplay was, the only song I heard from them is "Clock" and that was off a movie soundtrack, I like the song, it actually got me interested in listening to some more of their music, but just not that motivated yet.

I'd love to see them live this year, all the more so since they're being supported by Richard Ashcroft (Formerly of the Verve), his solo stuff is outstanding, unfortunately my budget simply didn't stretch to it.

Gaz, I'm sorry to hear about that...how much do the tickets go for there?
And Coldplay sang the chorus with Ashcroft when he performed Bittersweet Symphony at Live8...I can send the file to you if you'd like it. You don't hear Martin too much but he's there. And Ashcroft is great anyways.

As for Keane...I like a couple of their songs but to me they're much more bland.

I honestly don't know what the original price was, probably around £30 which is about $55, the problem was that they went on sale at 9am on a Friday morning, by the time it got my lunchbreak and I could call they'd sold out. They're now on Ebay for over twice that price and as much as I love the music I'm not prepared to pay it.

As for the Live8 performance I'm OK thanks, I recorded it when it was on live.
