Well, I know some guys who do over 60 push ups in a minute. But everyone in infantry and airborne units in Czech Army must accomplish more than 32 push ups in 30 second. Very strict rules, you must touch the 2in tall rubber puck down and go to the taut arms up. And as to the 60 situps in minute ... why does it seem to be so hard to do to you? I have never gone under 60 ones in a minute. My best record is 68 and I am far away to be the best in unit.

The Aus army test you do get two minutes, with what you have to do varying for age. I think 18 year old males it was 50 pushups minimum.
Knew a massive guy from 2 Cav that could do 132 in two minutes, only for not being able to push them out faster ;)

Hat off! My maximum is 124/2 minutes. Definately more exhausting than situps/1 minute ...

Actually im in the Airforce and yes to achieve max score on the PT test its 60 in one for both situps and pushups. You only need descend far enough for your chest to hit your spotters fist and it is achievable. Most people can pump out the first 10 pushups with 6 or so seconds. Its only after that were it slows to one a second or less. the 34 in waist guideline is my squardons goal. To achieve max score in the Air force its 32in.
Further, whats so hard about that goal? we have a large number of over 30's who can accomplish it. The harder goal is the waist measurement bullcrap. It sucks to max out everything including the run and be docked for points because your waist size is 34 or higher.

As for achieving 60 push-ups in 60 seconds, it is quite do-able. US Army standard is for your shoulders to "break the horizontal plane", roughly the equivilent of touching your chest to about two to three inches about the ground. Besides, it's all technique. But very possible, as is 130 in two minutes...
The Ranger standards posted is the minimum for entrance into the Ranger course. The Ranger Regiment is different; those boys are studs, and train to a high standard of physical fitness. The school is designed to break the students down, and so it has different standards...what difference does it make if you can do around 120 push-ups going in (me) if you can only execute 10 when you graduate? (also me) However, what was left out was the five mile run, the buddy run with combat equipment, the obstacle course, Malvesti, the roadmarch, and Land Navigation. Fail any of those and you're gone. These events, along with several others, is what makes up RAP week. After that, the focus is all on patrolling, reconnaissance, ambushes, and raids, with the emphasis placed upon passing patrols (although students are graded upon different items in Mountains and Florida, such as climbs, rappels, and knot tying, etc.)
In all seriousness, though, I have not known a single Commander who has not published his own physical fitness standards. Such as Officers get a min of 300, and NCOs a min of 270, or be released for standards.
Does that clarify it a bit?
Edit: I forgot to mention, and perhaps some of the other Infantry/Combat Arms guys here will agree with me, but that push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run is great (as is the USMC PFT, which we also train to)...however, the great equilizer, and of more importance on the battlefield in my opinion is the full-combat equipment run, and long-distance foot march.
It is amazing how people who are studs at the PT test allow their bodies to fail them during a 10k run with combat equipment, or a 25 mile foot march.

60 pushups in a minute is highly achievable. I think those of you who think this is really odd just either aren't in that good a shape, or are in a unit where this type of physical fitness just isn't the norm.
