Israel, Hezbollah to swap prisoners

CNN) -- After years of difficult, secret negotiations, Israel and the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon agreed to a prisoner exchange expected to take place within days, a dramatic breakthrough after the adversaries traded fire this week along the tense border.

Israel, Hezbollah, and Germany, which brokered the exchange, confirmed the swap. Under the deal, Israel would release 35 prisoners, including two senior Hezbollah officials Mustafa Dirani and Abdel Karim Obeid, the German government said.

The 35 include 23 Lebanese, five Syrians, three Moroccans, three Sudanese and one Libyan. Israel will also release 400 Palestinian prisoners to the West Bank and Gaza. Also, Israel will release German citizen Stephan Smyrek, who worked with the Hezbollah militia.

Israel will provide information on 24 Lebanese MIAs to Lebanon. It would also give to Lebanon the bodies of 59 Lebanese citizens killed in action against Israel and Israel Defense Forces maps of mines along the Israel-Lebanese border.

In exchange, Hezbollah would release Elhanan Tennenbaum, an Israeli businessman and an army reserve colonel, as well as three Israel Defense Forces soldiers who are presumed to have been killed in action.

"With this agreement, Israel and Hezbollah have achieved a breakthrough in seeking to soothe one of the most painful consequences of the Middle East conflict," Germany said in a statement.

Zvi Rish, an attorney for Lebanese prisoners held in Israel, said the swap is to take place Tuesday.

Just an observation that I have…………

The only times these Arabs ever value jewish lives or even put a high value on Jewish lives is when it comes to prisoner swaps.

Also these swaps just show how little they themselves think of their fellow Arabs lives.

For they will never do a trade with Israel for a fair amount on a equal numeric bases but rather will always demand hundreds for one Jew, as if they themselves don’t consider Arabs in tens to be worth a single Jew.

They will allow their fellow Arabs to sit in prison for years unless they get their full figure they want.


I mean say for example Israel offered fifty Arabs for one Jew, they will say no. The clear implication is that they themselves don’t consider fifty Arabs to be the true value of a single Jew but rather its more like hundreds of Arabs that are the value of a single Jew.

What’s ironic here is that it is they that is putting a high value on a single Jew and it is they that is putting a very low value on a single Arab.

(of course by Israel trading hundreds of prisoners for one life, it shows the high value Israel considers one life to be or even for just a dead body)

If they don't carry out the deal completely he will kidnap more soldeirs. There is 1 lebanese prisoner left behind for exchange with ron arad. There are also bodies.

after the soldeirs were kidnapped Israel said it will give hezbollah 24 hours or so to return them. Nasrallah came out 24 hours later in a speech and said "its been 24 hours lets see what israel has to offer". And guess what they didn't do anything. They chose negotiations over military action. Israel does not want to start a new war.
