I'm not a guy, but I'm going to give you some advice anyway. :) There is probably no way around her feelings getting hurt, but you can do it in the kindest way possible. If you can be honest with her that would be best. (don't tell her if you're wanting to see someone else... that would hurt her feelings even more) Be as nice as you can, and even if she's really upset with you at first, she'll get over it, and maybe you can be friends later. Be prepared for the fact that some girls won't ever "forgive" you for breaking up with them, but if she's like that, you're better off getting rid of her now.
Be Nice.... always good advice. (don't listen to the idiots who will tell you otherwise.... this is something I know about....trust me)

Best you listen to farmgirl on this one. Be direct, don't leave her hanging. Be diplomatic about it. Remember you cared about her. Be nice to her even if she wants to kill you.
See my reply on the 'how to ignore your girlfriend'-thread.
Better get that baseball bat and be over with it.

Incredible how all answers to girlfriend-related problems are pretty much universal.

Some advice on protective measures when telling your girlfriend:
When you tell her about the breakup, make sure you wear some body armor (double up if you can) and put on a helmet and some portect eye glasses. USE A CAP TO PROTECT YOU KNOW WHAT AND YOU KNOW WHERE thing. Secondly, put away all the potential objects that are easy to throw at people and are dangerous by nature, like dishes and cups. Lockup all the firearms and hide all the ammunition as much as you can.
On the second thought, just tie her up before telling her anything. Make an excuse saying there is a special surpise for her, so she will fall for it.
Kill her and bury her in your backyard while listening to Guns and Roses "I used to love her".
On a more serious note; just be open and honest towards her. Even though that may be quite difficult. Just tell her how you really feel

thanks for the advice. it has been done, and it was tough, but i couldn't sit there and pretend to like being in the relationship. i'm 17 years old, i can't be feeling stuck and locked into a relationship like i did.

she took it extremely hard. and it made me feel bad, but i think it was the right thing to do. even if i still wanted to be with her, it would have had to end the relationship this summer when i leave for bootcamp, so it's better that it ends now before she could get more attached, even though she was already really attached. thanks again farmgirl.

Why would you ASK an internet forum? These members are bunch of guys you have not met, better yet, who do NOT even know your girlfriend what so ever. Why don’t you ask your FRIENDS? It seems bizarre you would ask us such a personal question.....
I know this is off-topic, but seriously, save it for someone who knows you and your girlfriend better, not a bunch of 15 year old boys who still have to go through puberty. Are these the kind of people you want to ask? Use your head man.

Why don't you let someone else decide who they want to ask rather than tell them who they should. Remember, not everyone here is a bunch of "pre-pubescent 15 year olds" (by the way, last time I checked the vast, vast, vast majority of 15 year olds have gone through puberty). In fact most of the people here are over 18 as far as I can tell.

I’m giving him USEFUL advice, not an analysis of his relationship problem as we are not the best suited people to help him with that. Why would anyone bring up personal issues on here? Weird
Duci try and give some thought to the crazyness of human psychology okay? Most of the time when people ask for help on how to do something deep inside they already know what (they want) to do... all they ask help for is 'to make sure' or to get the balls to do what they want to do. It's not like they don't have a clue. Just my 2 cents on basic human psychology... :)

i did use my head, farmgirl helped me out, like she has helped alot of people on here before. my friends don't know her, anymore than people on here do. i don't know them, and i don't know you, but i would take their advice long before i would ever consider yours.

There is nothing wrong with asking for advice on a forum.
Just as long as personal information about the situation isn't given.

You are right dicamus... don't ask a bunch of prepubescent 15 year old know nothings. So... never take advice from dicamus19.
Even though he tries to distance himself from the rest of the forum.. he is just as much of part of the forum as the rest. ...speaking of that.. you told him not to take advice from 15 year olds and this forum.. give him advice yourself..and then tell him to get advice from his 15-16-17 year old friends.
MarineDEP has already surpassed your maturity by seeking other viewpoints rather than just asking those who see from the same vantage as he does. It is easy to get people to agree with you if they have the same point of view. Looking for help from outside sources and getting an impartial, objective, unbiased view of things is a good idea.

To back away from bashing ducimus for a moment (which he richly deserves btw), I wanted to offer more general advice about breaking up with women.
Sorry your relationship had to end due to boot camp etc. Prolly best to end these things before the develop a life of their own. But I can't stress enough how important it is to be decent about it.
As you get older it gets worse 'cause it's not a naive 17 year old with no strings attached that you're dumping. It will be a smart, worldly, experienced woman, with whom you will probably have a much longer relationship and serious future plans.
And you will have matured and have a more fully developed sense of responsibility and guilt over hurting someone. So, what's the best thing to do?
The answer is found in the teachings of Sam Kinison. In order to alleviate the woman's pain of being the dumped, a complex plan involving real (or simulated) substance abuse and emotional neglect must be executed. Drink too much, swear a lot, be forgetful, and basically make her fall out of love with you. Nothing serious, just embrace your inner male jackass. This will cause her to dump you.
In fact, this will empower her, and enable her to believe that she's done the right thing - wile simultaneously achieving you goals of dump-age.
I can personally testify to the effectiveness of this strategy, and it has few drawbacks. One is that the woman may begin to feel bad when you fake being a jerk as you covertly fake jackassedness in order to have her "can" you. This involves too many layers of thought, and is beyond my mental capabilities...so I don't think about it.
The other is if you're going out with a "fixer". A "fixer" woman doesn't want a whole human being - they want someone to fix. This is dangerous since the worse you get the more they like you. And they will blame themselves for your failure. There are fixer men too of course, but since we tend to mostly be tools, there aren't as many.
So in the future, I urge you to do the right thing and be decent by being a jerk.
