Ba(OH)2 + HNO ----> Ba(NO3)2 + H2O

I have this problem in a chemistry homework packet, and I tried for two hours on Thursday to balance it. I think it's unsolvable or has a typo.

It already is. It's called hip hop.

Is the fact that most members can't do **** but post weird and gay things on mp.net, a threat to future society?

It depends on the society. If said society is North Korea, yes.

None of the above. Atoms dont belong on the internet.

Although HNO does exist, it's usually only formed as an intermediate from other nitrogen oxyacids reacting in the gas phase, AFAICT. It's pretty bizzare. It would usually decompose to water and N2O. In the equation above, the nitrogen in HNO would need to be oxidized to NO3- but there is nothing to carry out this oxidation.

So, I think you are right about the typo. If instead of HNO you had HNO3 (nitric acid), would that make more sense?

Would the equation then look more like the others you are dealing with?

It should certainly be much easier for you to balance using nitric acid in place of the HNO species :-)
