Jesus Christ- post the name of your forum, cause I sure as hell wouldn't want some retard like you running a place I visit.
If you're a "secondary admin"- whatever the f*ck that it- then you can jerk off for all we care when you post there. HERE though, Hood sets the rules and you look like a major asshole when you think they don't apply to you cause you're on your high horse. :slap:

Would that be coming in and correcting the insulting and grossly incorrect information being posted by some poser wannabe. Yeah I guess we're guilty of that.
Hey but after lurking here for a bit I can see where slagging someone is definately not tolerated here.

Why cant the subject title be in all caps?
hillbillyinheart
01-28-2004, 11:25 PM
I aint a poser, I just wasn't aware of the rules. So whats wrong with caps, it gets ppl attention. it's like in a BAR and trying to call your buddy, talking wont get him, throwing a shoe will, but You have to yell.
The 6+ fourms I post at, this is the only one worried about caps, LOL
When I work online I have to have caps on. Inputing stuff in the DB. I go 5-10mins forgetting my are caps on.
Why cant the subject title be in all caps?
Because on the internet, all caps is the same as yelling. Yelling amongst many conversations is rude. Enough people read the main page that if your topic is worthy enough, people will read it. You don't need all caps to get attention. As for giving out IP addresses of users, it's not gonna happen without a formal written lawsuit. After a hard battle that swayed in both directions, a judge just ruled that ISP's don't have to give out IP addresses to the RIAA without a formal court subpeona as it infringes on user privacy and goes against due process. I agree.

No, whatever goes on between you is your business. It's coming from the fact that three or four of you moved in from other forums to participate. I don't know if it's common practice to play internet vigilante, but it's not nice. And much less to holler at our admin like you did for private information, which is wrong and illegal.
As for the "slagging" reference, I'm not sure what you're talking about, but we deal among ourselves as we see fit. We don't go on other people's forums to "correct" whatever anybody writes or tell them what to do.
You can deal with the person who offended you in private manners. You don't have to draw him in a flame war on his board. Email him, invite him to your board, as you see fit.
I do not question your motivation, just the way it was executed.
If you want to stay, be welcome. I'm sure you have interesting things to share. One you (Bartok5) posted one of the best posts I've read in a long time. And you mentioned KevinB. If that's KevinB from the AR15 forums, you hang around nice people.
Have a nice day.

DE6, nobody was starting a flame war, that was going on there long before "we" jumped in. I'd say it was more like putting out a brush fire before it spread.
You're right there are probably better ways to handle something like this, such as PM, and/or e-mails. I'm a moderator on another board and I prefer that method.
It only works though if the numpty gets the hint, which was not the casehere ( trust me it was tried). Sometimes you have to bounce a brick off of his thick skull to get your point across.
The crap he was spewing had to be shut down, and fast. So no apologies on that count.
Again nobody was ganging up on this poser. Anyone could have owned him as was the case. However you see your buddy in a scrap, you wade in to cover his six. I don't know about you but that was something drilled into my thick skull the minute I put a uniform on. 27 years later it's still there.
Hillybilly was merely trying to bring something to the board admin's attention. So he didn't do it in the approved manner, big whoop. Instead of trying to help the poor sod, several wankers here jumped all over him on what is basically a trivial matter.
Yeah posting in caps is considered shouting and rude in forums. Most ones I've dealt with in though that is reserved for the body of a post, not the title. Other things considered rude are poor grammar amd spelling ( most computers had spell check last time I checked), shoot from the hip comments, BS, juvenile antics, slagging other posters and of course posers and wannabes.
Hey it's your sandbox though and I'll abide by the rules if I come here to play. You're right I (and many of the others) probably do have something to contribute if we choose to stay. I've seen some interesting threads here that I could contribute to. Besides no offence but the ratio of BTDTs to posers and wannabes here is pretty bad from the looks of things and the rep this site has among some professional military could use some improvement. That's a shame, because it has some potential, and there appear to be some passionate and switched on people here.

What you said here has a ring of truth to it and its something that I have thought about a lot since I got on this forum.
For yes indeed you are correct that the ratio of BTDT's to posers or wannabees is a bit of a problem and it’s a shame, however it’s not as bad as you put it.
One of the positive things about this forum is the huge international flavor and mix that this forum has. You see while yes there are a lot of "posers” as you define them, there is at least one or two hardcore (or more in some cases) BTDT’s from alot of different nations that constantly contribute to this forum. So for example you can ask or talk about any military thing from a wide mix of nations and you’ll likely get a response from a BTDT from that nation (of course you’ll also get 20 responses from posers and wanabees, but you’ll get that one that counts as well)
So like every forum, there are pluses and minuses but for me the biggest plus is the international mix of nations that I feel have a wider mix of foreign BTDT’s then other forums I have visited.
With that said, yeah it can use some more “expert” opinion’s from more seasoned BTDT’s, so stick around and get your buddies here for no offence to the other Canadian’s here but its about time we get some more seasoned and experienced BTDT’s from your nation as well.
Shalom :D
Well of course investin time in this forum can be a future investment as well; wait 10 years and a lot of the 'wannabees' might be BTDTs themselves... :D

No apologies needed, I said I didn't question your motivations.
No offense taken. The ratio is a direct consequence of the situation on all-BTDT boards. Like SOCNET, great board, chockfull of BTDTs and ripe with knowledge, but don't go there to ask newbie questions, or give your opinion on pictures, or just chit-chat if you're not part of the club. I think many members here also lurk on SOCNET and such. All-BTDT boards are places were you shut up and listen, which is valuable. But if you want to talk with people who are not necessarily BTDTs, and as pointed out by IDFM203, with a wide variety of posters, here's nice, and this also is valuable.
We may have few BTDTs compared to the number of NBTNDTs, but the few we have are premium quality. Quality, not quantity! And it's great for wannabes/gonnabes to have such people accessible.
One of the reasons why I got this whole thing going was because I'm not a BTDT, and unfortunately don't have the ability to be. This site is for "the rest of us", where people shouldn't be afraid of asking questions like on various other boards. Knowledge is power. Sharing knowledge is empowering.

Exactly. I'm not in the military. I never will be (medically unfit for service). But I'm interested in military issues. This is a place where I can ask questions and get answers without getting run out of town on a rail.

I didnt even notice he'd used caps-maybe if the whole sentence was in upper case. Seriously if people think a capitol letter is akin to shouting and insults or hurts their feelings there are some folks out there with seriously thin skin!!! The best way to kill time in the Army is slag off at your mates and cop it back. I cant believe people get offended by Oh no..My God.. no.. he's using those big letters!! Why has god forsaken me.LOL(really really loud)
Yeah and you don't mind someone coming into a library and shouting at the top of his lungs at random time too right? With so many threads, you have to keep the front page civil or it deteriorates into people trying to find better and better ways to get your attention until the front page ends up looking like a freak show with multi-colored lettering, flashing text, all caps subjects, and bold/underline stuff.

For the first time I agree with you.
I don´t consider myself as a very hardcore BTDT with my 10 months of
actual service and well, 15+ years of interest in military
(especially equipment and military history). Rather a quite average one.
But I think even the "posers and wannabes" teach me things in a forum
like this one, where posting pictures and sort of captions is the main thing.
And I like that this forum isn´t moderated that hard by people that
consider themselfes as "elite BTDT" and that all other should shut the
fokk up. Here there is a global (or atleast the western world) exchange
of ideas and knowledge and even people that just are interested by the
military and not have served even one day is learning me new stuff
everyday.
I could have served a thousand years in our army and still not know as
much of in example the greek army than a greek with just the interest in
military knows about them. The international flavor of this forum is quite
interesting, it doesn´t generate the same inbreeding of knowledge as is
usually the case in forums where there are only swedes and so forth.
