Smith and wesson are reviving an old classic which once dominated the law enforcement arena, however, this time around instead of being a revolver it is a polymer framed stricker fired pistol designed from the ground up from a fresh sheet of paper.

trying to shake off the past failures with both the sigma and SW99 polymer framed pistols, smith and wesson have introduced a brand new auto designed completely by them. Called the Military & Police after the famous wheel gun once carried widely by police officers, it is aimed at just that market. past efforts by smith and wesson in the auto loader market have yeilded very reliable and durable pistols with a wieght problem, and ultimately where very plain in a world filled with extrodinary pistols. The new military and police looks to change that and it looks like it will fit in with police very nicely.

all the features on the pistol are both very usable and well thought out and the gun is already getting great reviews and has been adopted by 12 police departments.

from the get go it is apperant that the pistol is intended to take a bite into glock's market share and current dominance in the LE market. Offering many features that are better then the glock, the most common is a excellent trigger, with a restrike ability. it also features changable back straps which also cover the sides of the grip and allow for the shooter to change the amount of palm swell as well, an impresive 15 rounds of .40s&w and 17 rounds of 9mm, with a .45acp version to follow soon.

this is the first time i have been excited about a striker fired pistol, and nearily all who have fired it have been very impressed with both its feel, and reliabilty, and accuracy.

just throwing this out there, what do you guys think?

Looks pretty sweet. Very low-profile, like the Glock. I'd be interested to hear about how it performs and how it rates in reliability.

Not a bad looking piece; I dig the wavy serrations on the slide, & low bore axis. Always been a fan of the Novack sights.

Rob, do you know which PDs have adopted it and in which caliber(s)?

i believe the weapons that have been adopted thus far are .40sw. the gun is currently only demoed in that caliber and was designed from the ground up for it, unlike glock. 9mm is around the corner and .45 should not be to far behind, along with compact models and 357sig.

i do not know which departments have adopted it other then being told that 12 have so far. not bad for a pistol not even in full production yet.

nearily all that have fired the pistol are very impressed by all accounts so i am looking forward to being able to handle one.

another interesting note, is that all metal parts are stainless steal. no more rust. :D

I want see-through side panels for the grips like the ASP modded version of their old 39.

Round off the ramp of the front and rear sights just a wee bit more for snag reduction. Get rid of the pointy beavertail looking rear grip. Sticks out too much past the slide.

Meh, just my 1/4 assed opinion. What is the end user price?

45ACP version with a safety has JSP written all over it.

Rob, did you get a chance to shoot it??

no i just found infomation on this new pistol and was impressed with what i saw. i will try to get my hands one one, but not being (anything remotely related to) an insider, it wil most likely when they become avaliable to your average joe.

Interesting pistol,
looks somewhat similar to the Sauer P250, with the differnce that the Sauer is a compact model.

Interesting pistol, but I would not buy one untill it's been around for a few years and is proven reliable and such. . .

But IMHO, noboby makes a glock like glock. :P

Another Glock look-a-like.

In the aesthetics department, the wavying styling doesn't do anything for me. The Taurus 24/7 looks better.

I noticed that Smith and Wesson has really cut down on their revolver lines, and some of the old classics like the Model 13 and Model 19 are no longer in production. Such a shame.

problem is not every one likes glocks. and there is a lot of improovment to be had over the glock. this pistol promises some of that. i liked the features that glock offered but at the same time did not like the feel of the whole thing, this promises to fix glocks' 2x4 ergonomics.

the wavying cuts are supposed to allow for a better grip that wont dig into your fingers as much if you shoot without gloves on. I agree that it isnt exactly good looking though. but i also think the 24/7 looks more cobboled together then this pistol.

it is too earily to announce this pistol a great auto but it is also unfair to dismiss it as a glock look alike as it clearly has some advantages over glocks design.

the slide profile does look somewhat similar to the p250 but they are very different animals.
