There actually is a point to be wearing a ballcap, berets just make you sweat.

Wtf cares about how it looks, ok ok... go on and wear that damn beret all day long, you'll sweat... you'll develop a damn tan-line on your forehead and you'll always have a red stripe on your forehead where the sweatband was... how professional will you look then? :P

A beret is just something you put on whenever someone takes out a camera..

Berets only look good if people actually take the time to form them properly.

For garrison/parade, is more suited for berets, but for working a patrol cap would be best IMO.

I prefer that berets stay with Special Forces.

I thought Army wore Patrol Caps and Marines wore Utility Covers. p-)

I like the beret, but not the way in which the US Army adopted its use. They took a symbol of an elite unit, and gave it to everyone, thereby robbing the Rangers of one of their traditions, and diluting its meaning. Also, by making a big deal out of forming and shaping the damn piece of headgear, the soldiers in my old unit seemed like a bunch of faggoty pretty-boys, so concerned about who's piece of black wool had the best looking crest. If I were still in, I'd prefer to wear it the relaxed, European way.

Feldmütze
In my unit it was known as the "Narrenmütze" (fool's hat) and wearing it after basic training was over was a no-no.
Tankers are proud of their black berets and wear them whenever possible!

On the other hand we always made fun of the Panzegrenadiere next door who were allowed to wear their green berets from day 1.
Result: None of them could do it properly - they all look either like Pizzabäcker (a style obviously were much liked by the new Iraqi army) or Marineinfanterie...

I know, the tankers even wear them while driving a tank (we made fun of both Panzergrenadiere and tankers)

In my company only the commander wore beret, the Landsers (even the Spieß) wore Feldmütze ;)

Beret, with it you look cool, but you should know how to wear it, if not Marines cap.

Nothing beats a smart, well shaped beret (no yank style flight decks please :)) for general use. Out in the sticks, it's usually my helmet that keeps my head company, but I like wearing bush hats with the brim trimmed a bit. If it's cold my black woolly cap rules all.
