I am looking to add another gun to my collection which is the Franchi SPAS 12, but since it is capable of 4 rounds a second would I need a class 3 license?

Spas12 is not a DD and 4 rounds a second  youll be lucky with two rounds with out a jam.

Back in the day they could be had for $250 they didnt sell very well, now since the 89 ban they have simply increased in price simply due to the fact no more will be brought in.

Get a m3 benelli.

Ok, let's begin:

-the magazine-fed spas15 is renowed for stoppages and malfunctions..12gauge cartridges were not meant to be feeded by magazines, and if the spas get dirty it became a jam-o-matic machine.

-ergonomics is poor, the new plastic folding stock is an improvemente over the old tubular one, but it's hard to have a correct cheeck weld on it.

-strangely, I've seen the new spas stock cannibalized and put on a beretta ar70 and it was SWEET.

-the bolt catch is located in a awkward position that negate the use of a weaver rail on the receiver, if you have to use a red dot, you must mount it on the carry handle, VERY high, awkward to acquire.

-it's HEAVY, cumbersome, not suited for CQB.

In my opinion the saiga 12k is a wonderful rifle, vastly superior to the spas, however, it's magazine-fed and that is a bad thing for a shotgun.

It depend on the use would do with a shotgun. For a breaching tool or for a rear-guard man, it's very hard to beat a pump action shorty, IMHO.

Most people do not understand how to shoot a SPAS12. It is horrible for little people. My SPAS12 has not jammed on me in fourteen years. If I hand it to a novice shooter, it jams up a storm. It is sort of like limp-wristing a pistol.

If you hold it with a good grip, you can even shoot it one handed using the hook. It is a blast. The only shotgun better/faster is the Benelli M1S90. It shoots like lightning.
