In the army it's largely dependent on your MOS. Infantry goes to Ft Benning for OSUT (One Station Unit Training), Cavalry and Armor to Ft Knox, Combat Engineers to Ft Leonard Wood, Artillery to Ft Sill and so on.

If you're one of the "clerks and jerks" like I was, you could be sent to any non-MOS specific basic training installation.
