I bought a Remington 870 Super Magnum...black composite, pump. Final price was $285US including tax. It seems beasty, can fire 3 and 1/2 in. shells dunno if I'll ever need that ability though...we'll see...Wal-Mart is apparently discountinuing the sale of it (they also wouldn't sell me shells during hurricane Rita, I was only going to try to defend my country against the onslaught of destructive weather, get drunk, take a few potshots...really give her a piece of my mind if you know what I mean, oh well...)
Anyone know a good place on the net to buy an 18 in. barrel for it, or if I can buy barrels online?

Damn...does it take 2 3/4" shells? I thought those Remingtons were 3" to 3 1/2" ONLY.
Could be wrong.
I have a Remington 870 sporter in 2 3/4" for clays and dove hunting.

You can also get barrels direct from the Remington website. No prob with shipping, as a barrel is not a firearm.

Durandal, it takes 2 3/4, 3, and 3 and 1/2...pretty cool, I wanna fire off some 3 and 1/2's just to see what it is like.

Hot Damned! Hope your shoulder is well conditioned to shooting rifles or your new hunny is bound to leave some love marks... My friend was bruised for weeks after a few boxes of 3" reduced recoil shells - you gotta go for the whole shabang though and give your impressions on what that extra half of an inch does for you p-)

I don't like using an 870 with 3.5" because usually they are very light and kick, rather than shove. It's been my experience that heavier (which you may get with that sythetic stock) doesn't really reduce it, but makes it into more or a shove that is easier to take.

A word of warning. I honestly think that the larger rounds are dangerous because of the difficulty for most people to control the firing.
Because the pump guns do not have a semi-action to bleed off some of the energy, the REALLY buck when you shoot a 3.5" Turkey Magnum. ;)
Beretta's new 3" to 3.5" semi is a sweet gun for such loads.
Just be careful. Then after you master it...

I think people are more afraid then hurt when they shoot the big rounds. They think, "Holy ****, that's huge! It'll dislocate my shoulder and snap my neck and cause the earth to rocket out of orbit!" when in reality if they just went and did it, they would be suprised at how easy it is to adjust to. Sure, anyone's going to have a sore shoulder after a box or two or 3.5" loads, but that's just part of the fun.

I've been shooting shotguns since I was 5. My shoulder ALWAYS gets bruised when I shoot 3.5 inch magnums. When I shoot clays using 2.75" No. 7 or 8 loads, I can shoot a 1000 rounds and never know the difference. If I go through 2 or 3 boxes 3.75" magnums regardless of whether they are slugs, sabots, or turkey loads, I am done.

Man.....I would love to see that.
Shooting slugs out of that thing kicked like a mule, the 00 wasn't that bad though.........especially after shooting the slugs.
Eddie used the above in the informal 3 gun shoot up at Craig's, all this was taking place as I followed him around as his M4 caddy/bitch p-)
