Well, I don't enough experience with many different brands to specify a "best" drop-leg holster. I'm using the HSG drop-leg holster right now, and I love it woot

Yeah, can anyone recommend a good one? I'm looking for one that is secure, comfortable and hard wearing. Blackhawk ones seem popular, but I've heard people praise the safariland ones. Any tips?

not much beats a Safariland 6004 at this time, it is comfortable and fast draw capable. The SOC is another great holster, probably better then the 6004 but choice has been limited due to new production.

Take a serious look at the BHI Serpa, the new serpa is a good design with comfort and modularity. it draws fast and retain the weapon with good security. I ran a set a month ago and it was very comfortable and noticeablely more user friendly then the 6004. but since i have been using 6004 for a long time, I bias to the 6004.

6004 is a great holster but not an easy one. Even with its basic SLS it requires good time spent on practice to master qucikdrawing with it. And a sore thumb too probably... ;) I once seen a man who was really fast with Safariland level 4 safety - I kept wondering how much time it took him to learn the trick.

I've only ever used that Safariland one... I myself prefer a holster on my hip.

you can get a pistol patch for that now to have a safariland mounted on a duty belt with either loops or molle ;) good to go.

I've got a Blackhawk right now, and I'm pleased with it. It's holding up well. Only thing is it's hard to get to while in vehicle. If you get a Blackhawk, definately get the belt extender, it lets you take the holster on and off quickly, while leaving the extender attached to your belt.

I uses the 6004 on my tact rig. It is a good rig for my uses (LE). I've found that the secret to speed from the holster is not to place your thumb in the middle of the break to ride it forward, rather put your thumb on the back end to push forward. This way your thumb pushes the strap down & forward and sets up the hand with a nice high grip on the backstrap.

On a day to day basis, however, I wear a normal (leather belt slide w/thumbreak) concealment rig, my preferred method of carry.

Good tip Laconian, I might just add that its quite important to push the SLS thumbbreak with cushion (or whatever the soft part is called) of your toe, not the tip - doing it in wrong way can be unpleasant experience. However 6004 can give you lots of fun when practicning quickdraw, after you observe some progress that is... It gives you that wild west feeling p-)

I got an Omega VI last year and took it to Iraq. Looking at it I quite liked it (once I'd cut off the para retention strap), but wearing it was a whole different ball game. I hated it and went back to a CSM gear loop holster that I got a few years back.

I won't wear a thigh holster again. Unless the pistol is your main weapon (if so, why?) you don't need to do OK Corral quick draws. It was a lot more discreet like that (but more comfortable and easier to access than a covert rig).

I use the 6004, my review is here
6004 Review (http://www.diytactical.com/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=63&Itemid=84)

Reason for the thigh rig is not just for quick draw at least not in my opinion. with my vest on (CIRAS) i cant wear a waist holster, it's uncomfortable and cant get the weapon out. Don't wear it on my vest in case i have to release it. So on the thigh it goes. Biggest problem i see with the militaary guys walking around they aren't wearing it properly way to low and way to loose. not to mention walking around without gear on I wear a waist holster.
