Hi all,
Just wanted to post a couple pics of my 1/6thers. Just wanted to know what you guys thought of them and how I can make them more realistic, although their not modeled after a particular unit or soldier(s). There composed of mostly Dragon Models gear and BBI gear, although there is a little 21st Century Toys in there. Please note I know my photography is horrible. Also I still have a little work to do on the guy w/ the M16

P.S.: Don't bash me too much for still playing with "toys" ;)

MVSpartan117
01-28-2004, 07:19 PM
Well very generally speaking U.S. Army Special Ops, I was going for the Iraq look =P......... I just build them as I go, I try to make them realistic, while looking cool. I admit, I could have done a much better job on my weapon choices though

Well, I kitbashed them, so I used parts from boxed firgures I've bought in the past, although you can buy nice boxed figures for around $30-$50.

I've always loved 1/6th figures, i got my first when I was 5. Since then, I'd honestly say that it's safe to say I've invest at least a thousand dollars in them, probably more

MVSpartan117
01-28-2004, 07:51 PM
Yeah, I've though about, but I suck at painting. I have been thing of just hollowing them out. But like I said my weapon choice was bad. I have some weapons the have hollowed barrels, mostly only a couple millimeters, but thier still hollowed.

Edit: Sorry I didn't actually read your post all the way, thought you were talking about the barrels..... Ya, I could probably paint those :)

Hi Guys - My Black Watch soldier is entirely kit-bashed from separate components - the Highland Bonnet & Hackle are handmade.

The figures and components available to us have come on leaps and bounds over the past few years from their origins in GI Joe and Action Man in the 60s.

I specialise in figures from Modern British Forces and their European allies. Uniforms in the correct cammo pattertn are often difficult to obtain, AFAIK no manufacturer has made any of the Cadpat kit so far, likewise German Desert flektarn, which I am keen to work with.

Interesting to see some ppl collecting this figures. I've got 3:

I've recently started to collect some 6-inch fihures, which are a good compromise between the 12" and 4 3/4".

Hey I have a question to you other 1/6th collectors

What do you think about bbi bodies? I like them, they're incredible nice to pose, but I have a couple of problems with them. 1. Their necks seem to be too long. 2. They seem to be almost too posable, they can sometimes look awkard when posing. 3. They seem to be too loose, When I pose mine they often fall over or slump down in some way. 4. Thier hands pop out too easily.

What do you guys think?

P.S.: this is probably a bad plac to ask but, I'm looking into buying some 1/6th U.S. Tri-color desert camo, if anyone would be willing to sell me some, PM me :D

Well thx! The figures are mostly bbi but the sniper is wearing a intoz guillie suit and has a bbi m14 with pistol grip(not sure of name) and hot toysz boots.
If you can with all that wooded area try to hook up a sniper correct for that terrian.

Haiw - thanks for the pointers on Dutch forces - as another member pointed out, all of my figures are one-offs, none even based on boxed figures. I wasn't aware of the correct sight unit being available. Although I am a regular visitor to your country, my knowledge of Dutch is poor. I picked up what I could from the Dutch Iraq contingent website, but some was lost in the translation.

BBI figures - IMO without doubt the best, but difficult to stand up independently, there are so many joints, they often work against each other.

Stuntman - An odd combination, presumably Hasbro AG-36 GL - where did the sight come from?

Where's a good place to obtain these figs in the UK?
has the SEAL team 8"Trident" been released in the USA yet?

DeltaWhisky58
01-30-2004, 06:34 AM
Argyll

The Trident fig. isn't available in the UK yet - yes, it's worth getting, one of the best BBi have done so far.

There is a bit of a problem at present in that BBi have appointed a new inporter (Corgi) who have put the prices up. Trident will be easily available in the UK, but will be around Ģ40, whereas with the strong Ģ at present you will be able to by it (delivered) from the US for around Ģ28-30 assuming the pound stays strong.

The best UK retailer is Modeller's Loft http://www.modellersloft.co.uk/

But I would advise one of the following US/Canadian dealers all of whom I have used personally.

OJO - http://www.oldjoeinfirmary.com/
Outer Perimeter - http://www.outer-perimeter.com/
The Battle Rhino - http://www.thebattlerhino.com/

Trident may be a month/six weks away from the UK, but will be on the shelves any day now Stateside - shipping from any of these guys is usually 7-10 days. Any further questions, drop me a PM.

This weekend (if the weather's ok) I might get the camara out and show u guys these 6 inch figures that have just recently come out.
I reckon they are a good compromise between the 1/6th and 1/18th.
I find the 1/6th figures too delicate and a little expensive.
And the 1/18th lack detail.

Hey guys, I just went out and blew $172 on two new figures and some sets. I don't have a scanner so unfortunately, no pics :( .

Devgru $85 - Hot Toys

ST8 Trident $42 - BBI

SOE CQB set (Desert) $34.00 - Ace

M870 shotgun set $11.00 - DML

The Devgru figure is really cool. He comes with the controversial "Banna Republic vest," a 35mm camera w/ zoom lens, ball cap, TASC 2 ear cup, sunglasses, a badass M4/M203, and a helluva lot more than I can mention. But what's coolest, is that his gloves are real! I mean, they actually come on and off, and are cloth! Too cool. The Trident fig by BBI has got to be by far their most popular figure, I just bought some loose parts from Opsgear, but currently, everything I ordered is on backorder. Turns out EVERYTHING sold out within a half a day. He comes with sunglasses, BHI S.T.R.I.K.E. vest, a really cool M4 Commando w/ KAC RIS, Surefire foregrip, AN/PEQ-2, a COMP ML2 w/ KAC mount (I think), and some really cool Salomon mid expert light weight boots ( :D ). Still, it's way to much to fit into one post. Well probably not, it's just I don't want to bla bla bla bla.................... The Desert SOE set is cool, although it did not come with a main weapon or body, or comm. system, or headgear. It just came with:
Desert SOE CQB vest, Desert SOE CQB subload, Safariland 6004 holster, Sig P226, Desert buttpack, RAID DCU, Tan T-shirt, utility upper, and dual pistol upper. And as usual it came with boots (Obviously a must have). I'm still waiting for the DML weapons set to get here. I get paid again next friday, and since I don't really have anything urgent to buy, I think I'll go buy that new AFSOC PJ by Hot Toys.

Basically it means you get all the hear for the particular figure but un-boxed and without the **** doll - this is mainly fior guys who want to have multiples of a figure to make up a squad or whatever, without having them all look alike.

You really wouldn't believe the level of detail.........pistols with working slides/removeable mag, rifles with functioning actions. Many pouches etc. used to be plastic, but most are now being relaced with realistic fabric ones. The level of detail is awesome.

The Trident figure, totally awesome. Damn I wish I had a camera! I've also got some stuff coming in from goodstufftogo.net in about a week. It's just some extra accessory stuff from HT. I bought the Alta knee pads, the OD assault backpack (X-1 RAPTOR. produced by BHI) and a few other things. Toy soldier is supposed to have some new CIA set coming out. He comes with a CAR-15 with a ML2 mounted on a weaver rail. It looks pretty cool. The new SOE FROG set from Ace isn't as up to par in detail like the CQB set. It's nice but it hardly comes with enough gear. Just the vest, subload, pistol, holster, BDU and boonie hat. It's a nice mix n' match set, but not much up there if you want to design an entire figure out of it. I've also heard rumors of a new Delta Force set from HT that comes out this summer. It's either gonna be for Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom.

yeah, you're definitely not enabling the up-close focus option on the camera. which camera are you using, anyway?

hmmmm... i have a canon powershot g2.

i think the button you need to press is directly to the right of the 'eye hole' piece (view finder). you know what i'm talking about.

or maybe it is to the left of the view finder. i don't know. just look for a flower icon. or look in the manual. ;)

I LOOKED AT THE 360 VIEW OF THE CAMERA! IT IS THE BUTTON DIRECTLY TO THE LEFT OF THE VIEW FINDER! THE LITTLE FLOWER THINGY.

whenever you have the out of focus close image, be sure to turn on the flower.

heehehe. when i was reading the specs for the G5, i was like, is he a professional photographer?

seriously, that camera can do some serious damage, but you need to figure out how to use that complicated equipment. leaving everything on auto is great, but remember you need to adjust for the upclose picture with the flower. :)

One of my friends has the Hot Toys SEAL CQB - Desert figure, and it definately is one of the best figures I've seen. But one thing did hit me pretty hard. The damn HDS looked like it had been melted. I got onto toysquare.com to check out some photos and sure enough, the damn thing looked like a blob. The Hot Toys version of Eotech's 551 HDS is pretty much the crappiest thing ever. I mean, it's too short, it's not even tall enough to see over the front sight. For god's sakes, it doesn't even stand taller than the PAQ-4 that is included. I let him have one of mine that came with the BBI "Gunslinger" figure.

Many SOF units wear no insignia whatsoever. All you will see (usually on the shoulder of the blouse and the helmet cover) is the person's last name, blood type, and the last 4 of their social security number. Ex:

Dragon Models are of good quality, and they release a load of new figures on a regular basis, however the cover mainly WW2 (80% German) and Modern (90% US - mainly SF) with a smattering of other figures. As an example of the figures released to cover GW2, about 10 were modern US (all army) and three were Brits (poorly done).

BBi produce far fewer figures than Dragon, but on the whole these are of much better quality. They also cover both modern and WW2 and generaly their figures are better made, better thought out and contain more kit. Again in the modern sector there is a heavy bias on US Special Forces, especially SEALS.

Hot toys are much more limited production - prices are higher, but you get amazing detail and heaps of kit. The main disadvantage is that the dolls are seriously awful!

21st Century are not really in the balgame any more, their quality is poor, although they have prices to match. What 21c are very good at is vehicles.

There are other low-level producers such as Sideshow Toys, Custom Craft, Ignite, Dog Soldiers, Armoury etc., ranging from Very good (Armoury & Custom Craft) to poor.

Speaking as one who sees this as a serious extension of any military interest, the only way to get total accuracy and realism is to "kit-bash" your own figures. To do this you iether buy a boxed figure and work on it, or ado as I do, start with a basic **** doll selected for the correct look etc., and then buy/trade al of the parts you need to assemble the most accurate representation possible of the inidvidual figure/unit etc. possible. In some cases this may involve modification or even scratch-building of parts.

Most 1/6th figure dealers supply individual parts - some specialise in it. Kit-bashing is more expensive than buying boxed figures, but it is far more satisfying.

Hey howdy hey!

Do any of you 1/6th scalers ever visit Greenleaders site? It is my other favorite besides here. I will try to post some images of my modern figures but here is a link to my site were you can see some of my ww2 figures and vehicles.

It is a great hobby and way to appriciate History and the sacrifice of others.

I go to GL's site every now and then

My next kitbashing project will probably be a continuation of my jungle SF guys, I'll probably then do another batch of desert guys, I'd really like to start using some of my vehicles in my photos too.

In the mean time I might do some WW2..... But I don't have much ww2 stuff so the guys might not be the most historically accurate

Yep its Snake, and one day, yeah one day ill finish the goddamn ghillie :-*$

/edit: yeah and ill also have to fix that SAW, the Dragon Weapons are better then the BBI ones in my opinion (at least if you have to fixem).

BBI weapons seem to be fragile, even thier diecast metal ones.

Although thier not the most realistic, my 21st Century guns have really stood the test of time.......... and idiot freinds whose only point in life is to break things.....

P.S. The ghille looks fantastic

only mounties...I don't think anyone made Canadians in CADPAT yet. Although there is a place where you could request your own model. For 300$ you can make one look like you.
