I'm not sure where Equatorial Guinea is, but is that Near the ivory coast? Where the Legion currently is operating?

The Legion who is in Liberia, is French Foreign Legion, not Spanish. Equatorial Guinenea is near Congo and Gabon, with a small, continet territorie and lot of Islands, it was a Spanish colonie.

yeah it's on the west coast of africa just above the equator, between Gabon and Cameroun. It's a tiny country but like Gabon it has oil reserves, which they apparently squabelling over. I spend some of my childhood living in Libreville, the capital of Gabon and my mum did some work for Shell back then (80's), so this oil debate can't be anything new. It might of been in Eq. Guinea where there was a bloodless coup recently but I can't remember.

Cut that is awesome getting to live in Africa - what was it like? I had an aunt that was a missionary in the Congo and had to leave several time because of fears for her safety. I never really knew her. Interesting 20th Century for that part of the world.

Gabon wasn't a problem, but my parents must have been danger junkies coz we moved to the USSR after that. Gabon was warm and we used to take a boat out to a small Island, with no-one else on it, whereas in Moscow we weren't out of the city without getting permission two weeks in advance, and of course it was freezing in winter. So yeah Gabon was easy going by comparison.
