Hey, it's the HMCS Sackville! It's on permanent display in Halifax. I visited it, it's a very nice exhibition on the Royal Canadian Navy's role in escorting the convoys to Europe in WW2. It's a Flower-class corvette, IIRC.

Is 1 CIWS enough to defend the damn thing? Even 2 doesn't seem like enough, and I doubt our ships would be able to sucessfully defend as a fregate.

Yeah the HMCS Sackville, Broke it's Ropes, holding it docked and sunk a tall ship durring the hurricane this year. was quite funny seeing a Decommisioned Ship sink a Ship.. LOL

Canadian Ship
Thats the HMCS Perserver, It got damaged at sea, and Lost it's 5' Deck gun in the waves, becuase the waves were soo big, I saw it docked outside my dad's house. I see these ships everyday. And will tommorow to work.

Reason you got into gagetown gates, becuase of the canex, theatre, and the army display, Plus gagetown is a open base, means anyone Civi or military can drive around base. becuase each park it locked. If you have friends you can visit them.

plus where my new home will be.

No, check your AFV. It's a ADATS system. Based on an M-113 chasis.

lol i know it was the preserver but i forgot how to spell it and was lazy to look for the correct spelling. My Father wanted a pic of that ship cuz he used to serve on it during the 80's. When i was there i went up to the ship and they were doing something to the hull maybe because of the dammage that u mentioned

pAt ,
You don't happen to have any shots of the Leopard C2 with Ploughs or Rollers on do you? I've been trying to explain them to someone and have been unable to find a photo of a Canadian tank to do it (the Australians have a lot of these pictures, but I want to show it on one of ours).

The few pictures I find are small & grainy.

Just FYI the HMCS Sackville is a Flower Class Corvette. Corvette is a ship designation not a ship type.

Is it standard for ther ADATs to have only 4 missiles vice 8?

AORs (HMCS Preserver) used to have 3"guns never 5". The Iroquois class destroyers had 5" but those were replaced by the Oto Melara 76mm during that type of ship's TRUMP update. AORs are usually fitted with 2 CIWS but one was removed for maintenacne. HMCS Preserver is apparently in refit now leaving the east coast ships without AOR support.

Just a question about the ADATS, I heard from a canadian once that the ADATS even had capabilities to take out ground targets. I had hard to believe it, is it true?
In that case what cind of ground targets?

Ian H

Well ADATS means Air Defence Anti Tank (System?). It can theoretically be used against ground targets, but I don't know how effective it is against tanks per se. It would give any attacker something to worry about though wouldn't it?

Anyone else help us?

(Yay, 50th post!!!) woot woot woot

The ADATS (Air Defence AntiTank System) is more leathal to armour than the TOW. It also has greater range.

Canada is considering moving the system to the LAV III chassis and developing new ammunition types for the system. These would allow for optional use of target specific ammunitions for greater effectivness in a given role. The "new" system will be known as MMEV (multiple mission effects vehicle), which is a tacky title.

Think of ADATS as a LOSAT that can also chace down aircraft.
