Yeah it makes you wonder why they don't seeing that he obviously suffered from no recoil at all. My only thought is that it would use up too much ammunition in too short a period of time.

Dude, they had to bolt that thing down all the way to the frame of the truck or it would have been ripped off from the recoil within five minutes of pulling the trigger. My dad would tell me stories of when he was flying AH-1Gs and they would have car bodies out on the gunnery range and they would just hover and blow the **** outta them like that with the minigun.

If you ever heard of the NightHawk projects from Vietnam, the mini-guns were so powerful the pilots really started to get scared of them because it would literally move the helicopter as the gunner was flying.

why do they use high caliber shells when firing? there wouldn't be so much recoil in a Humvee if they used 5.56mm bullets.

The gun that rocked the Humvee and the gun that Jesse James used are different models......maybe that is a consideration? The smaller calibre version could probably go on a Humvee with less rocking of the vehicle...but the ammo consideration, I would suggest, would keep it from being practical.

The minigun in the video is an M134/GAU-2/GAU-17, same as the one mounted on AFSOC and SOAR helicopters, as well as Vietnam gunships. The caliber is 7.62mm NATO, not .50.
