Earlier I loaded some pics of Colombian military in response to a question on here about their uniforms. They were ones I’d taken and loaded at another site. Here’s a few more of Cuban aircraft and equipment I took on a couple of my visits there.

Sorry about the quality of some of them, but then certain things you’re not allowed to take pictures of there. I’ll dig up and scan some more if there’s any interest.

Marmot nice site, thanks.

Interesting some of the soldiers they show in and around Gitmo ain't soldiers. The uniforms and insignia make them as MINIT (MInistry of the Interior) not FAR. They're probably TGF, Guarda Fronteria Cuba, a unit that is responsible for the frontier around the US Base. Somewhat akin to the old KGB Border Guard Units.

I did not know Cuda had issued out AK-74s as it's main service rifle. I always thought they used the AK-47 and only that.

They have AKMS:s with plastic mag.

That is all.

Not AK-74, AK-47 or AKM.. but AKMS.

Correction:

First 3 Olifant Mk.1 pictures are from March 23, 1988.

And last one also from March 1988.

And this last vehicle was fully functional when captured!

The first MiG-15s - 20 MiG-15s and 4 MiG-15UTIs - arrived in Cuba at the end of May, 1961 (one month after the Bay of Pigs), and assembly commenced at San Antonio de los Baños on 6 June with Soviet assistance. The first Cuban pilots to fly the MiG-15 were Alvaro Prendes and Douglas Rudd when, in November of 1960 flight-tested them in Prague, Czechoslovakia. In Cuba proper, the first to fly it was Enrique Carreras, on 24 June 1961.

Cuban Mig 15

On 5 October 1969 Lieutenant Eduardo Guerra Jimenez landed MiG-17AS number 232 at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. The aircraft was returned to Cuba, but before it left some of its interesting features were captured in both official and unofficial photos of the event. Of particular note, K-13 "Atoll" missile rails - characteristic of the AS - were mounted under its outer wings. It was painted light gray overall instead of natural metal (except the drop tanks, which were bare metal except for a red nose cap), and its fuselage insignia was just a star in an inverted triangle without the blue disk.

Cuban Mig 19

In a testament to Cuban backwardness and fondness for driving 1950's vintages cars; by 1994 only the Cuban Air Force was still flying Soviet-built MiG-15bis aircraft.

As result of the economics problems of the USSR, the Cuban FAR received only 12 MiG-29 (series 9-12B) Fulcrum A and twotwo-seats MiG-29UB (series 9-51) Fulcrum B. These arrived in October of 1989 and after be are assembled, they begin the test flights on April 19, 1990. ... Because of this the USSR began the deliveries of MiG-29, although by the disintegration of the Soviet Union Cuba never receive all planned aircrafts.

All the 14 Cuban MiG-29 served in the 231th Squadron of the 23° Regimiento de Caza (Fighter Regiment) basified in San Antonio de los Baños

Another event where participate Cubans MiG-23 was the shoot down on February 24, 1996 of the two airplanes Cessna-337 of the Cuban exiled organization “Brothers to the Rescue”. In the action participated a MiG-23UB piloted by the colonel lieutenant Francisco Perez Perez, and the MiG-29UB of the too colonel lieutenant Alberto Perez Perez (brother of Francisco). The MiG-23UB served as radio delay between the ground radar controllers, while the MiG-29UB shoot down the two airplanes with R-60M missiles. The reports that that MiG-23 shoot down one of the Cessna-337 are not correct. But in detail this event is described in the MiG-29 section.

An organisation, regardless of what it calls itself in title such as "rescue", "liberation" or "salvation", when it is acting against a nations government is an enemy to that government/regieme. Therefore they should expect to be met with resistance
