Doesn't even look like they put him under, or numbed it...

Hmm...do you get a Purple heart for that? Assuming it was an enemy grenade/mortar/IED/etc.?

Does it matter the sevarity of the wound?

How do you know that they didnt put him under, I really cant tell by the first picture.

Hard to tell what the hell that is. Looks like it could be a piece of secondary debris, like a pebble. Don't knwo the criteria on Purple Hearts, was lucky enough not to find out.

I’m pretty sure the only criteria for the Purple Heart (in regards to severity) is that the wound must require treatment by a medic/doctor. Other than that, I think it’s fair game.

Looks like the guy is probably under some type of local anesthetic (if any) – the kind they would use when giving stitches.
