About a year ago I saw this movie trilogy that had a part centered around the Warsaw uprising, on top of it all it was polish and a very good movie.

Perhaps one of you Polish will know the name of these movies, done in the 50's or 60's , black and white, etc...

BTW: I liked "Winter war" (Finnish war movie)-it was a couple years ago in Polish TV.

I wish I'd remember the name of that particular movie which was about the Warsaw uprising, it was supposed to be a "part" of a trilogy of movies made by a popular (famous, even?) Polish director.

However, as far as I could see none of the movies in the trilogy were really connected to each other, story-wise.

I know this doesn't help that much, but...

Btw, "Winter war" is a good enough of a movie, but "The unknown soldier" (Tuntematon sotilas) is far better in my view.

BTW. We have many very-good war movies and series. Esspecialy when considering psychological aspects of war, realistic battlescenes(maybe not as huge as hollywood ones but decent in all other aspects ) and actors play. They are very patriotic but it ussualy not impact on movie quality... Their weak part is very offten lack of historicall corectness, but on level non-polish and even polish( :oops: ) audience will not care. Also equipment details often aren't to great. This flaws are effect of censorship by communistic authorities and lack of $$$.
Bigest shame is that most of them isn't offered on DVD's or even VHS on international market, even localy they are hard to get :(...

Ahhhh yeah-those are classic!
The "Canal" is based upon novel by Jerzy Stawinski (his war stories are really good).

Well, there's some decent work out there, but the one any non-Finn should probably see is "Tuntematon Sotilas" or "Unknown soldier", there's a remake of it done in the 80's or so but the 50's original is certainly the version you should watch first.

Now, then there's of course "Rukajärven tie" (I think that it's called "Ambush" for export deals) which was done in the 90's and includes some of the worst historical correctness on weapons and such, not to mention that some of the idiots here really thought that it was a fantastic movie...

Now I remember seeing "Tuntematon sotilas" in WinMX once, but I have no idea of the subtitles...

Well yeah. The action in the movie takes part in southern Finland in the Karelian
Isthmus (between Gulf of Finland and lake Ladoga that is). This is nearest to Leningrad
as well. In other parts of Finland the Finns didn´t use static defence, but more "hit
and run", but in the south there were bunkers etc built. Scarcely though, most of the
"Mannerheim line" was only trenches (as seen in the movie). Soviet tactics was
as in the movie. Horrible and criminally inhuman to the soldiers.

The unit in the movie is in Taipale, one of the most famous battlefields
of the Winter War, blue line is the "Mannerheim line". Behind it was a second
defence line, "Enckel line".

THere is a scene near the end of the movie where finish soldier shots soviet selfloading rifle, but he charges wepon every time he shots. Is this was blooper because of blanks usage or this scene was made on purpose because those guns were realy jaming?

Why in movie high-capacity suomi box magazines weren't used and only drum ones?

The automatic rifles used by the Soviet troops were the AVS36 and of course
the SVT-38, both of these had "mechanical problems", and especially in very
cold weather. Even if it just was a blooper I don´t think it was all that incorrect
if put into a historical context. As I´ve understood it the automatic rifles captured
were not popular to use by the Finnish soldiers in the Winter War (in contrast
to the Continuation War that started in the summer and where all SVT-40´s
were taken to use immediately).

And about your second question about the non-drum magazine, the answer
can be found in the link, the 50 round stick magazines was obviously a swedish
design and only 250 were bought for testing purposes in the late phase of the Winter
War.
