April 20,2004:
A convoy of 12 soldiers in four Vehicles traveled in Mosul when an IED struck the first Vehicle. Suddenly insurgents opened up small arms fire at the soldiers, who then shot back (while evacuating the wounded) and killed 4 insurgents and injured more.
The attack left one soldier dead, and another seriously wounded
(I’m not sure if the casualties were from the IED or the arms fire)

Awesome pictures. I haven’t seen these before. It would be interesting to know if the insurgent “cameramen” was among the dead, because we all know that they usually record these types of ambushes. Maybe the guy escaped, anybody know if there is a video of this?

No, just regular windshield glass.

thats most likely the case, but that was back in 2004. Now I'm pretty sure there is better armor protection on all Vehicles in Iraq (at least I hope).

your right and its unfortunate. I really can't believe that American vehicles didn't have protective armor, its America! Not a third world country.

But you know what, I think that it wasn't even an issue at first because the army didn't expect an insurgensy, or IED's. But they still should have fixed the problem as soon as it started and not wait until dozens of KIA's before they act.

Well, looking at that windshield glass it looks like the soldier was killed by gunfire instead of IED
