Would you be prepared to risk infecting your country with mad cow disease from England? :D

Presumably it's a technicality due to their import restrictions on beef from the UK. One of those cases where there will doubtless be journos etc just waiting to pounce and criticize the authorities for dumping 'illegal' food on refugees from NO etc.
One of those cases where they are damned if they do distribute them and damned if they don't.
Having said that as they were current army rations any UK produced beef in them will have been from cattle certified as BSE free since 1996. The chances are that as the UK imports lots of beef any beef in them could have come somewhere else entirely.

I would be much more worried about beef from other countries now. The UK acknowledged and effectively dealt with the problem in 1996 - lots of countries haven't.

If it's any consolation, i appreciate the gesture, but it's necessary for the protection of our nation's health. The last thing we need is to have some NO refugees yelling about how Bush doesn't like black people and he tried to poison them with bad food from the UK. Also, with the tension of H1N7 strain, you shouldn't be surprised about us being more catious than we normally would.

Oh well, they'll be shipped back and we'll find them issued as training rations. Mad Cow Disease versus System, Digestive, Squaddie Mk1*? May even be an improvement...

Been to England, we saved the poor victims of N.O. another blow by keeping your food away.
If you think you don't have BSE in North America you are kidding yourselves.

If you think you don't have BSE in North America you are kidding yourselves.
Ho hum.
Thats very true, almost to the point its shocking.
For Ex: In North America we only test animals that look sick, Italy in the 90's practiced this, then when italy started testing ALL livestock they found 6 that they normally would have tested that looked sick, and over 130 others that looked healthy with BSE that were going into the food stocks.
Not good, USA had its first homegrown BSE case last year as did Canada.
Makes you want to give up Beef in all honesty, seeing what BSE can do to you?
Scares the living sh*t out of me.
Good thing my favorite Dish is BBQ Ribs :D ( which are pork, hehe there is plenty that can go wrong with pork but not a brain melting dimensia disease )

Just use the ones without beef.
Surely not all of them have beef.

All the beef that goes into these meals have to be scientifically tested for BSE and certified free from at least 1996 onwards. Most of the beef doesn't even come from Britain. The only reason the beef ban is still in place is to prop up the failing beef industry in US states needed to keep the government in power. There has been no case of BSE in Britain in over a decade. There been three cases in the US in the past year alone. I am much more concerned about US beef than British.

What? MOD ratpack corned beef hash actually contains beef? Even if it does contain BSE it'll be out the other end in about 2 minutes flat, perhaps the Americans could lose some weight :)

The only MAD COWs I know of are the foreign female visitors to the US. My take.
I suggest you read my post "New to the Playground" that will give you a feel of who and what I am, and how I feel about my country. If you want a level headed discourse,I'm your man, if you want to jump on the bash USA bandwagon, I'm the guy who will show you unlimited ways to insult you, your family and your country. I'm retired I have all the time in the world.
Thanks for reading and I hope we can be "Buddies"
1. I'm not interested in who and what you are. Why would you think I would be?
2. I made a level headed contribution to this thread and simply pointed out that Mad Cow disease has existed in North America for years. I have yet to see you make a mature post on here. There is no valid scientific food safety reason why products containing British beef are still banned in the USA. The safety measures put in place in Britain since 1996 mean that British beef is probably now the 'safest' irt BSE that you could possibly eat. Certainly much more likely to be BSE-free than American beef.
3. As for providing 'unlimited ways to insult' ppl - big deal. Am I or other contributors on here supposed to be impressed by that? It's just attention seeking behaviour.
