MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Capt. Christopher Stricklin ejects from the USAF Thunderbirds number six aircraft less than a second before it impacted the ground at an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, Sept. 14. Stricklin, who was not injured, ejected after both guiding the jet away from the crowd of more than 60,000 people and ensuring he couldn't save the aircraft. This was only the second crash since the Air Force began using F-16 Falcons for its demonstration team in 1982. The ACES II ejection seat performed flawlessly. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. BBC: N. Korea gassed prisoners (http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2004/02/02/333503-ap.html) - LONDON (AP) - The British Broadcasting Corp. aired a TV documentary in which a man claiming to be a former North Korean agent described seeing prisoners being experimented on with lethal gas in the communist state. The BBC program said Sunday that the man, identified as Kwon Hyok, was a former North Korean army intelligence officer in 1999 who defected to South Korea. It also said that he was formerly chief guard at a North Korean prison camp, reportedly known as "Prison Camp No. 22." Kwon Hyok described a gas chamber at the camp. He said it was 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) wide, 3 meters (10 feet) long and made of glass so that scientists could observe inmates as they were gassed. "I witnessed a whole family being tested on suffocating gas and dying in the gas chamber," he told the BBC. "The parents, son and a daughter."

It took a little while, but finally some news from the securityplatoon Shaibah, also called BEVPEL on the website (www.nldetirak.nl, it's in Dutch, sorry :)).
Hereby we hope to satisfy the expectations of the people home, who were already waiting for several months for some photos of us.
Our task is to provide security for the people and goods that move over the roads in Iraq, by making convoys, or joining in already established convoys, against any possible agression. This can vary from an obstruction of passage to armed agression. Our primary task is to neutralise this agression to enable the convoy to safely continue on its path.

Well it works. I read a report from the testings of the first prototypes, in

better self confidence, compared to those that had the all green m/59

2004-01-07 / Taiwan News, Staff Reporter / By Taijing Wu

The Ministry of National Defense displayed its prowess at defending Taiwan against any terrorist attack by deploying its best-trained, anti-terror airborne troops yesterday at the Kuei-jen airbase, near Tainan, southern Taiwan.

The military performance yesterday afternoon was mostly centered on anti-terrorism, with the Army's elite Airborne Special Service Company demonstrating how the unit would rescue hostages in the event of a terrorist incident by staging the kidnap of the mayor and citizens in public. Wendell Minnick, Jane's Defense Weekly correspondent in Taipei, said, "The ASSC is based on the U.S. anti-terrorism unit, Delta Force. The ASSC takes only the best of the best from the Army's 862 airborne brigade."

Members of the ASSC arrived on UH-1H and CH-47 SD helicopters. After a quick briefing by their squad chief on positions to take and orders for their teammates, the ASSC guys made an assault on the building from the roof and the main entrance. The hostages were rescued in less than five minutes.

The ASSC members are said to be the cream of the crop at Taiwanese anti-terror activities, and their abilities are said to be second in the world, only behind the Israeli anti-terrorist forces.

Yesterday's exercises also included a a preview of the Army Aviation and Special Force Command. The ASFC is a new command that integrates all aviation brigades with the Special Warfare Brigade 862, based in Lungtan, Taoyuan. The 862 is a special forces brigade modeled after the U.S. Rangers. All three of the Army's aviation brigades were represented at the demonstration, including the 601, 602, and 603. The 603 is a new brigade created for the rapid deployment of the 862 and the ASSC in times of crisis.

Taiwanese airborne troops, most of which were officially made public for the first time yesterday, jumped from CH-47 SD helicopters from 5,000 feet and 7,000 feet to simulate night attacks on enemy bases. One of the members of the Shen-Lung Squad (Heaven Dragon Squad), Major Sergeant JJ Chang, a young lady in her twenties, told the press that she has already parachuted 430 times including yesterday afternoon's practice.

Another demonstration simulated a night attack by enemy ground troops. The enemy was positioned to be neutralizing Taiwan's guards but their assault was later countered by numerous helicopter diving attacks by the Army Aviation and Special Forces Command. Finally, ASFC airborne troops swept in and cleaned up the area by exterminating the enemies.

A detailed recount of the demonstration showed the military base being assaulted by an enemy ground troop composed of a dozen armed men neutralizing the sentinels. Then Taiwan's forces stepped in when an OH-58 D reconnaissance helicopter identified the entire area by marking what targets the two AH-1W Super Cobra helicopters were to destroy when it made its several diving attacks from all directions.

Finally, the ASFC airborne troops arrived at the site on several CH-47 SD Chinook helicopters making a final assault on enemy forces.

Military analyst Erich Shih (¬I§µÞ³), editor-in-chief of the Defense International, said, "Through this event, the MND is declaring that it is the leader in anti-terrorism, and it has invested more time and finances to do it even better. Taiwan has made quite a lot of progress in this field during the past years."

Venezuela often sees spillover from Colombia's four-decade civil war pitting two leftist rebel armies against the government and outlawed right-wing paramilitary groups. Haiw:

Your translating skills are not that bad, basically you got it right with the Danish translations. :D

Danske Irak soldater laver humanitær bomberydning = Danish "Iraq-soldiers" doing humanitarian bomb disposal.

The bomb was close to a village and 2000 thousand Iraqis had been evacuated out of the dangerzone.

An Iraqi Civil Defense Corps member is photographed for his ID card during the first day of training at Camp Muleskinner in Baghdad on Saturday. The Civil Defense Corps currently has about 4,700 members nationwide. The U.S. plans to call for expanding the force to 15,000 by the end of January, officials said.
