Al Gore's son sentenced to substance abuse program
Charged with marijuana possession
ROCKVILLE, Maryland (AP) -- The 21-year-old son of former Vice President Al Gore must complete substance abuse counseling as part of a pretrial diversion program to settle a marijuana possession charge.
The agreement approved by a judge Monday calls for the misdemeanor charge to be dropped after a year if Albert Gore III submits to urine testing, community service and counseling, and steers clear of criminal convictions.
The younger Gore, who attends Harvard University, had no comment after the brief hearing. He was accompanied by his mother, Tipper Gore, who did not comment other than saying the issue was a "private matter." Gore did not have to enter a plea and his case was placed on the inactive docket.
The son of the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee was arrested December 19, 2003, in Bethesda after an officer stopped him for driving without having his headlights on. The officer smelled marijuana and noticed the windows of the car were open despite frigid temperatures.
A search of the car turned up a partial marijuana cigarette, a cigarette box containing suspected marijuana and a crushed soda can that smelled like marijuana.
Gore was charged with marijuana possession, as were the two passengers in the car, Yann V. Kumin, 21, and Marc G. Hordon, 22, both of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Hordon and Kumin will undergo the same treatment program as Gore, prosecutor Douglas Gansler said.
He said no favoritism was shown Gore because of his family's political stature.
"Regardless of who the defendant is ... we treat them in the exact same way," Gansler said.
The younger Gore had been stopped by police twice before in recent years. He was ticketed by military police in September 2002 outside Fort Myer in suburban Virginia for driving under the influence.
North Carolina police cited Gore in the summer of 2000 for driving 97 mph in a 55 mph zone. Charges were dropped but he had to pay a $125 ticket and his driving privileges were suspended in the state.

I am not exactly a big fan of Democarats, but I dont see what the fuss is about. His son is more or less responsible for his own actions. Just because his son got caught doesnt meean Al Gore smokes treees everyday.

Using your logic, one could asume that the Bush Twins get their illegal substances from their dad too. He has a history of substance abuse of his own, and I belive Laura Bush does too.
Itīs evident that man, Al Gore, doesnīt enjoy many simpathys between forum members.
But in the other side, I donīt understand where is the point here? I donīt know how are laws in USA or what habits people have, but one question: How many of you have smoked before marihuana or being drunk off? The most serious drug above all others(heroine, coca, hachis, marihuana...) is alcohol and I sure we all know what is being drunk off at least once, and the most of people I know smoked at least once "porros", cigarrettes made of hachis. The problem is not smoking, the problem is being an addict. I know Bush family have had several and serious problems with drugs and alcohol, beginning with the president, so...Btw, I actully donīt smoke tobacco nor even I was a smoker before, I mean I wasnīt an addict, but in a party I can smoke a good cigar, and with alcohol the same.

You have a point here... Marihuana is pretty much comparable to alcohol. The only big difference is that there's no hangover. Apart from that, no big differences.

He was in "BLOW" too.
Story about that film. back in High school i saw that movie witha bunch of friends. They were selling these white hats with "BLOW" written accross it in bold black letters. So we all bought a hat. The next day we walked into school. We all came in with jeans, a white shirt, sunglasses and this blow hat on our heads. 6 of us walked line abreast down the hallway...it was hilarious... then the principal wrote us up...he was such a douche bag he though the hats reffered to "blow" as in a blow job, he didnt even realize that blow refered to la cocaina.

I have more of a problem supporting a President/CIC who lacked the integrity to complete his military service after it was handed to him on a silver platter.
It made me want to puke to see him strutting on that carrier deck in pilots gear.....gear similar to that that he didn't wear while he was obligated to do so in the TXANG.
Hehe, Heiw could talk about one of the friendlier cities of the world, Amsterdam, and the cafes are there. Alcohol is basically excinting even agressive, although if the dosis is high you know you allway finish asleep, and marihuana and hachis are relaxing, you feel peacful, so if you mix high dosis of cannabis with alcohol, I donīt know if itīll be very excinting, but sure youīll finish sleeping. But all this is a sh#t, the best drug I know is cooking and eating a good meal, drinking only good wine and only enough quantity, at the end you can have 1 shot of brandy, or cognac or whisky, but only good quality, and coffe and cigars from Castroīs island, and your body will be reconciliated with your mind for sure!

Check out the Vietnam vet being annoyed at the President and his pussy service during the war. Two words: John McCain. Oh, yeah I forgot, the Republican establishment assf*cked McCain so Cheney could be President. Like a better version of what just happened to Dean. Can't have a candidate that's passionate. Agree or disagree with their politics. Oh ****, the guy yelled. Ooooohhhhhh. I need a Democrat that looks like someone's gay Uncle and changes his mind every few minutes. No wonder conspiracy theories abound in this country.

And furthermore wanna know why Bush was wearing a flight suit? HE WAS FLYING A PLANE. What's he going to do? Fly it in his suit?

Errm right. So if I would ever run for president as a former crack-addict I should be praised for my will power to quit my drug abuse? (No CJ, I'm not a crack addict...)

Aaaah yes. Really 'normal' for presidents to fly their own planes. It was all just a cheap PR show... VERY cheap since he's always acting like he's a badass veteran while in reality he was just a NG deserter.

Cheap?! Ha, I bet it cost a pretty penny, and I strongly doubt he paid for it himself. Far cheaper to associate himself with the forces at a base or docked ship than to go out to the Lincoln to make a speech whose content turned out to be hopelessly premature("Major combat operations are over" for those who don't know which I mean).
