For the last couple of years I've had this happen at night to me a couple of times a month, I'd always assumed I was actually dreaming but I've since found out it's a genuine condition. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis)

It doesn't cause me any problems, it's just a completely bizarre feeling when it's happening and in it's own way it's quite an interesting experience. Does anyone else get it?

Point One - It's Gazbert, not Gazberth.

Point Two - Only my friends can call me Gazbert and expect me to answer.

Point Three - Point Two doesn't apply to you.

I've always heard that some people will see men/women, or things they can't explain; but can't scream or anything, just lay their like your paralyzed.

My wife gets that condition everytime I try to hit it from behind.

Every now and then if I've been sleeping really hard. If I just lay there for a couple minutes it goes away.

I suffered from it for a few months after a car accident. Scary **** but also cool at times.

I use to get it on the stressful days I had. The 1st one I remember having, I thought I was being abducted by aliens. I heard distorted sounds and seen bluish green lights moving around in the room, I was facing the wall so I couldn't move at all or turn around but my eyes could move. It was scary sh*t, it felt like if there was a presence of someone or something around me. The bad thing is that you feel defenseless. I know how to control it now, don't get it as much as I did.

Never happened to me, although I've done a fair amount of research on it. It would be an interesting experience.

Happened a couple of times when I was younger. Scary feeling!!! You think someone or something is in the room and want to move, but can't. You also can't talk (or yell in my case).

Scary stuff, cant say its ever happened to me. But at least I know about it if it does so I wont freak out too much.

I think Ive had this happen before...

Ive also had many drunken sleeps where I dont move whatsoever while sleeping (and Im usually sleeping on my arms) and I wake up in the morning with both my arms compleltly numb (or "still asleep"). This usually sucks when the alarm is buzzing and all I can do is flop around (because I have no control of my arms) like a fish out of water.

This happens to me all the time. And I usually end up banging my arms and hands on the corner of the nightstand, which really f*cking hurts as they start to regain feeling.

i wake up all the time with my arms or something falling asleep. i hate it sometimes cus i feel like i cant move them. and then i do and i smack them against my bedpost cus i think its funny when i dont feel it. then it wears off and it hurts. but i do it each time. unfortunately im not classically conditioned.

Evan, that's because you slept on your arm, all your weight was on it for a long time, perhaps you slept on your sides pinching your arm. It happens to me sometimes too.

Those are usually the best sleeps to. But strying to move once you wake up is always a fun task...or trying to answer the phone.

It sucks when your legs are asleep and you try to get up to answer the phone... I think I know what paralyzed people feel like when they try to stand up.

Whew, those moments are always fun. For those of you who slam their arms against things... I can imagine someone flailing about in bed... Pretty darn funny.

When we are in deep sleep, there is a normal phase of paralysis. It's bad if you don't. [Years ago, I dreamed that I was in fight and ended up kicking out a window in the trailer in which I was sleeping.] That's why you may have dreams in which you are being chased, something's going to hit you, etc. and you can't move. What can be frightening is waking up while you're in that state.

But there are times that this can be a problem, so it's best to be informed (http://www.lakesidepress.com/pulmonary/Sleep/sleep-paralysis.htm) and see a doctor if necessary.

I've once fallen asleep on the sofa in a kneeling position for about half an hour. Cue legs falling asleep totally....Doorbell goes, I **** myself, get up and fall flat on my arse because my legs don't work.

Oh how Mother laughed.

I never suffered from something like that... I bet you wake up and get all hot and nervous... Heart beating. I'd freak out in such a vulnerable situation.

Nawlins

Not really... it only happens to me if something wakes me out of a deep sleep, and that's pretty rare. I didn't think it was that big a deal... it's just like your mind wakes up before your body does.

CombatBoots

I wouldn't go back to sleep after that. Not 'till my body give in to the fatigue.

My man suffers from Partial Sleep Paralysis. It happens almost every morning. I wake up, look over and there is no denying the paraliyzing affects of his slumber. The good news is, there is a cure. p-)
